Never count a game out. Like Phoenix rising from the ashes, APB has found itself a new publisher and is beginning closed beta in February for it's re-release.
If you remember the story, internal developer conflict and a severely competitive MMO market quickly took its tole on APB and shut it down just a short time after release. After a short time in limbo, the troubled MMO has found its savior in GamersFirst which bought (resurrected) it in November. APB will now be brought to us on the free to play model, however you can (as always) purchase a premium account which will get you access to all sorts of goodies (clothes and guns probably).
GamersFirst will be releasing details of the closed beta sometime this week.

I was super disappointed when this game died. I was looking forward to it for a long time. D:
I'm glad that someone saw the potential in it and brought it back though. :3

I'm one who pre-ordered APB, staying with it from start to finish, and I enjoyed every danged second of it. That game was more than the sum of its parts, and, even in its incredibly short run, the developers cranked out impressive patches, leaving the game in surprisingly excellent shape by the time that it closed down. APB has been extremely harshly reviewed, with a reputation of being Vista-esque in undue hatred. For those clicked with the mechanics and customization, however, there is nothing like it. Bold gameplay choices, such as the absence of headshots, helped make APB unique, keep gameplay at a level where all players had a good chance of success, and provide an experience less catered to the hardcore shooter, with more focus on chaos, fun, and utilizing the world to your advantage.
APB deserves to come back and be given the time and commitment needed to take its base gameplay and add the content that it desparately needs. And, honestly, it looks like it's in pretty darned good hands.

Please pretend that the previous post is not a spelling and grammatical disaster. Typing on the iPad can be difficult at times...

I always thought this game had a very promising concept, too bad the developer couldn't really deliver. Hopefully GamersFirst will be able to make this game what it should have been in the first place.

While I'm really happy that this game is coming back out I pray to God that they have added the option to customise the game settings. My computer was fighting to keep up with the system requirements even when my PC was over the recommended list.
I'm going to enjoy the hours and hours of customising once again >:D

So a 'Play to Free' model huh?

Free to play was a smart decision. This just doesn't seem like a game someone would want to pay for to play.

ha thats funny

Aside from internal difficulties and external competition. There was also the matter of bugs, load issues and balancing issues.
If there's a premium setup of any sort. I can see a continuation of this balancing issue.
APB is a good idea though, a sandbox GTA/SR type game multiplayer online? It sounds incredible, but if they rely too much on the skinner's box typical stat-grind MMO formula, they'll cause a lot of balancing issues. I wonder how they'll fix it, if they even care to fix it.

I kinda don't want to pay another time for it... I hope the Premium will be cheap or that there is a special offer for previous owners...

Can't even play the damn game. I got invited to the beta, but the game decided it wouldn't install on my computer because my computer "didn't fit the requirements." That one pissed me off and forced me to lose interest in a game I likely would have played otherwise.
I can only hope they lower the requirements this time around. v-v Free to play games usually suck requirement-wise, right? I hope so..

I suggest anyone interested in keeping up with the revived APB (now called APB: Reloaded) to take a look at this http://apbreloaded.blogspot.com/ . Posts are made weekly detailing the design process and thought behind reviving APB. It's very interesting and gives me hope that this game might be in even better hands than before.

Hmmm, I don't see a bright future for APB.
