If you were looking forward to the next game by Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella you might have some waiting to do. Activision is playing tough with the duo, delaying court dates, filing motions and basically doing everything they can to keep Respawn Entertainment from getting off the ground.
Adding further length to the case, last month Activision amended their case and cited EA in the litigation, claiming that EA conspired to lure the duo away from Activision thus bringing about the breach of contract.
In recent court documents released by Kotaku Jason West and Vince Zampella are claiming that the extended litigation is draining their personal resources, time and any hope of Respawn getting fully operational any time soon. In fighting the delay and extended litigation, the duo claim that they "are paying for this litigation from our own funds" and that to date the cost of the case has "[exceeded] our combined annual salaries".
The documents are also claiming that the extension is keeping Respawn, which already employs 13 people, from becoming fully operational and "any delay of the trial in this lawsuit would increase the financial and non-financial burdens and would continue to distract us from running our business and earning a living."
What this seems to be is classic scorched earth policy on behalf of Activision who have the ability, financially, to draw this case out as long as possible. Delaying future work by the Infinity Ward heads not only fulfills a marketing need for the company but also serves as out and out punishment against the duo. Activision has sunk it's money-covered talons in fairly deep and is no hurry to stop the pain.

seems like kotick is still butthurt after they left (or got fired, idk)
Activision just keeps pressing charges and delaying cases, like a child who won't go to bed since the parents took away their most belowed toy, and won't give it back.
Activision are just being assholes at this point, I mean come on

Not that I expected anything less from Mr. Kotick and Activision, but seriously? This is just horrible. Hopefully Respawn can successfully fight this extension and such because this is just wrong. The thing that pisses me off more though is that people out there continue to support Activision, giving them the money to do things like this.

And it's times like this that whatever respect I have for Activision as a money-making business gets overshadowed by my lack of respect for how bigger dickheads they can be.

Activision enslaves everyoe they work with and whips the hell out of them when they try to escape. Just look at Tony Hawk...poor guy can't stop endorsing shameful skate games

It's things like this that make me lose faith in humanity. Every day I try and make at least one person happy, and this stuff almost makes my actions seem insignificant.

Disgraceful that a company as huge as Activision has to resort to these tactics. I knew they were a money making machine and couldn't care about the games they put out as long as they made the money. But this is just awful.

I hope Respawn has amazing lawyers.

Anyone saying that Respawn will make it is simply kidding themselves. Respawn will die from this, no doubt about it. This is not the first time a company has done this to stop a much smaller rival, and most if not all of those have succeeded. The only way we'll see Respawn make it is if Activision relents, and we all know that wont happen. It's a sad thing to see, Infinity Ward was great when it first started, a really respectable company, in no small part from them.

This is a great example of miscommunication. From our point of view, it may look like Activision fired their own peeps, and are now throwing some sort of childish temper-tantrum to keep them from working, but in reality, it can't be further from the truth.
What's probably happening is Activision had no choice but to intervene in Infinity Ward's communication problems with their publishing company, and due to a series of greatly complicated actions on Activision's part, the two lead developers from Infinity Ward left, leading dozens of employees who quit legitimately.
I asked myself why Activision would fire great moneymakers, and the answer is, they wouldn't. And now they're trying to recover them. It's fairly simple, but they will lose regardless.

even if there is a huge boycott amongst the gaming community against Activision that won't drain them of the vast resources they already have. and more so there will always be people out there who are out of the loop (IE casual gamers, older gamers, young gamers) and will continue to buy new and old games from the company because they are simply uninformed. honestly, even if all serious (I use this term loosely) gamers did decide to stop purchasing anything with the Activision logo on it, it probably wouldn't even put a dent in their overall sales across every single demographic out there, whether its kids, adults, teenagers, hardcore gamers, casual gamers, console gamers, computer gamers, etc. really all anyone can do is cross their fingers and hope for the best.
