More so than in recent years, I feel my "Game of the Year" Awards may be a bit inadequate this time around. While there are always games that I regret not getting around to playing or completing, I am always confident in my year-end choices -- especially the Top 10. This year I am finding it much harder to be comfortable with my picks. Below is a rather lengthy list of games that I wanted to play or finish but never found the time -- games that might have found places in my year-end awards. Damn you, Castlevania: HoD! How many games could I have beaten had I not obsessed over the Winged Boots?

Maybe you all can help me pick some of the better games on this list that you believe I might have a good chance of properly appreciating or completing in the next few weeks.

Would like to finish:

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - I got really frustrated with this game and stopped. Honestly, I was probably just in a bad mood.

Fallout: New Vegas - One moment I was enjoying it, the next I was bored - rinse and repeat. Then I let Carlos borrow it. I'll finish eventually.

God of War 3 - Not the biggest fan of this series. But I still think this one has the best combat of them all. Never finished mainly due to its broadcast unfriendliness.

Monster Hunter Tri
- I know there is a spark there with this series. But it's a spark in a rainstorm.

Shantae: Risky's Revenge - No time for handhelds, but this one was great.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - Ditto. Well, this game kind of sucks too.

Valkyria Chronicles II - I ODed on this one. Got burnt out after 30 hours of binging.

Ys 7 - Handheld dilemma again. That and I was longing for that Felghana lady.

Infinite Space - No really, I was reading books instead.

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love - I got exhausted from all the voice acting.

VVVVVV - If I could broadcast PC games more easily, I would have finished this one.

Bit.Trip Runner - A fucking boss kept me from progressing. A shame because I really like this one.

Deadly Premonition
- I hate playing the thing. I'll watch the Jeff/Vinny Marathon before the end of the year. Would that count?

White Knight Chronicles - I felt I had to play online to get the most of this one. And I didn't have the time.

Final Fantasy 13 - I only want to finish this because it's a proper Final Fantasy. Too bad the game sucks.

Donkey Kong Country Returns - I figure I owe it to my childhood.

Joe Danger
- Kept lusting after another dirt bike game while playing this one. Ruined the sex.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - Much like the above.

Risen - I dunno. Why does the combat have to be so bad in this?

Cave Story - The game gets so hard towards the end. That and I've resented this game because of the different "endings".

Who's That Flying?!
- I could probably finish this tonight really.

DeathSpank - I dunno, it's so easy to forget about some of these download games.

Zeno Clash - Ditto

Comic Jumper - Ditto

Hydrophobia - Ditto

Malicious - Ditto

Wanted to play more multiplayer:

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - I love the premise. I love what I've played and watched. But I feel playing multiplayer games to be somewhat unproductive.

Halo Reach - One match was all it took to remind me why I love Halo multiplayer so much. Unfortunately, all I played was the one match.

MAG - Was a bit scared off by the lack of auto-aim. That and it's a multiplayer game on the PS3.

Blur - I loved the sleek style and sense of speed. I enjoyed the beta but never played the final version.

Hoard - Do other people even own this game?

Was curious, but never got to start:

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty - Figured this might finally get me into RTS games. Too bad it's on a PC.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Have a feeling I might still play this one.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale - I've heard good things and I like the premise. PC though.

Zetai Hero Project: Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman - I really wish I had the time for this one. A rogue-like with the humor of a Disgaea game. Sounds like a winner.

Cladun: This is an RPG - The game has a great style. But yes, it's too bad it's on a handheld. I really need to find a way to broadcast PSP games.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana - The Ys game I really wanted to play. But I never found the time.

Dead Nation - Looks to be good co-op fun.

Costume Quest - If only there was a way to slow the text so I could do voice work on the feed.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom - I like slower paced games with puzzles and platforming. It's the Tomb Raider fan in me. But the demo really rubbed me the wrong way. I'll get around to it eventually.

Resonance of Fate - Would have jumped on this game in a second back in my JRPG days. But I had no time this year.

999 - I've heard good things about this one. I do want to try it.

Minecraft - I've been afraid of getting addicted to this one. I might play this one soon though.

Patchwork Heroes - I like the premise and the style of this puzzler. It's a cool spin on Qix. Handheld though.

Space Invaders Infinity Gene - Really cools style and music, but I'm afraid of SHMUPS.

Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip - I just recently heard about how good this is over on GAF. Might play it soon.

Toy Soldiers - I want to play this one, but Tower Defense games make me nervous.

Gran Turismo 5 - Forza 3 is the only reason I hesitated on this one. I played the hell out of GT3 back in the day, but I think maybe I'll just play Forza if I get the cravings for a sim.

Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment - I love strategy RPGs and the original Vandal Hearts is great. Too bad the art style is so repulsive in this.

GoldenEye 007 - I might have to try this after all the praise I've been hearing.

Arcania: Gothic 4 - Maaaaan, I dunno. I really want to play a decent Western RPG on consoles, but it seems all we get are shitty ports unless Bioware or Bethesda is making it. And I've played all of their games.

Dragon Quest 9 - Bioware Nate has convinced me this game is worth it for the loot. Oh, and it has Job classes.
Super Scribblenauts - I'm just not creative enough. :(

Professor Layton 3
- Never finished 2

Mount & Blade: Warband
- PC games make me sad.

That is one hell of a list. Also some info on 999. I'm not sure if you know about this or not but you're going to have to beat 999 14 times. 6 different endings and 13 different routes to take. Don't worry each play through gets shorter and shorter. My friend's 12th play through only lasted for 30 mins. Just him holding right on the D-pad(text skip) for the time.

I would suggest give Risen another shot on PC if you get the chance. The combat is not the best either but it's not as bad because it was made for Mouse+Keyboard.

Arcania is decent but I prefer Risen, the atmosphere and setting are more appealing. Arcania feels a bit empty and soulless to me (not as much as Bethesda's RPGs), coming from the Gothic series. And it's weird the console port is so bad since the controls of the game feel like they had a gamepad in mind instead of M+KB. I play most of my games on PC though. I know what you mean about the shitty ports. It's jarring to wait for a good game and have it turn out to be almost unplayable.

Other than than, I haven't played many of the games listed here even though I'm interested in them. Hope you can finish as many as possible before the end of the year show.

P.S. StarCraft II is really good. NOt too simple, not too complex. Multiplayer probably would be a bitch, though. I just played the single player and it's really worth it if you have the patience for 30+ min missions.

Recettear would be a good game to look into. Though, after a few hours you'll get the idea since the game doesn't offer too much variety. You might also find yourself frustrated at not being able to make enough cash by a deadline, and have to start over. Nonetheless, it's a really good game.

    That's a pretty huge list...
I was somewhat surprised (yet not really) to see that Zettai Hero Project was on your radar. I always kinda thought it was your kind of game for some reason... (judging from podcasts, feed, etc.) I love that game to death... Although I had to put it down, since I didn't have the time. I did get to Level 320 or so, though...

After you beat the first boss in Runner I am you play it more. I felt like World 2 was was easy and the two other boss in the game are not as hard as the first boss. I though Super Mario Galaxy 2 was great but if don't like the controls than its probably not worth it. Although I did hate that Bowser Jr boss battle to.
If your going back to Monster Hunter you should go straight to the online mode. The game is really much better co op mainly because it speeds up the game and also its makes the boss attack your partners and not only you.
As for Donkey Kong you should try the game again just don't waggle to much. I think shaking to roll is dumb but the game rarely ask you to roll. The roll is mostly used to try to find secrets. You should also skip the rocket barrel levels once you reach World 4 because they worst levels in the game not worth the trouble of beating.

Seeing as how SMG2 is my GOTY I guess it would be something I strongly recommend to almost anybody. However, I did watch you play this on the feed and I guaged that you weren't really enjoying it, not so sure as to the reasons why, so in that sense I am a little hesistant in encouraging you to finish it.

As for DKCR, I have to say I really did love the level design, especially so in the Time Trial stages in which it all becomes very apparent in how beautfully the stages flow. It sits as my 2nd favorite DKC game, only to be outclassed by DKC2. As mentioned above, the rolling isn't exactly a necessity in the main game, but I found it a HUGE nuisance, luckily I have ways in order to map them to a button.

Definitely most, if not all PC games I would recommend (most notably Starcraft 2), but I know your stance towards the platform so thats kinda out of the window.

There are quite a few games there that I never played, so I'll choose Super Mario Galaxy 2. Mainly because it's a game that offers a lot of variety from beginning to end, with plenty of new mechanics and unique worlds. That's pretty important to me since it keeps the game from getting boring, and always gets you interested in what's coming up in the next star. It's always a fresh experience. And all in all I think it's a very well made game (it's quite a shame that you didn't make it to the end, because it has one hell of a nostalgic moment that really made me love this game). Other than that, God of War 3 and Bit. Trip Runner are also good choices.

Monster Hunter Tri's does require patience if you're not used to the weird combat style. I'd recommend joining up with a party and see how that turns out (and it is fun at least). Yes, loot's a bitch when hunting but at least the job gets done faster if you have 3 other people. Another problem would be is devoting time to this game.

Infinite Space is text heavy, and also there's those "unknown territories" for almost every choice you make. The battle system's a cinch when you're just pressing dodge and moving back and forth, and attacking with just normal fire when in range. I had to use a freaking guide in case if I fucked up one scenario that does affect either the character unlocks, weapons/blueprints, or even the fate of the game. Despite the small problems that I have with the game, it's still one of my favorites of this year.

I would say Valkyria Chronicles II and Sakura Wars. Now for the mulitplayer, go with brotherhood (Nolan seems addicted to this game) and blur.

Double Fine released a patch for Costume Quest that allows you to pause the game at any time, comes in handy during the fast ass text

I still really think you should give Monday Night Combat a shot, even if just for the blitz mode (vs the computer). For the versus mode you could get a community game session going and make some private games to ease into the competitive aspect. The free dlc came out allowing a lot more options for private matches.

I'm really picky about multiplayer games, but this has to be the best multiplayer experience I've had in a long time.

You should take a trip some place and take your handhelds with you so you don't have access to your consoles. That's what I do.

Or play for like an hour while you're trying to fall asleep at night.

Brad, please let Amnesia: The Dark Descent be the #1 priority game on your list. It's just, in my opinion, too good to be true.

Beware of Minecraft Brad. If you end up liking it, you may as well kiss any other priorities goodbye. It's extremely addicting if you get hooked, & may be more-so after it hits beta on Monday depending on the content added in the future.

That's my main worry for your list.

I feel exactly the same way as you do with the whole Final Fantasy thing, but God of War 3 is a short game and it does offer the best combat out of the series. You could definitely beat it before the year is over, whether it makes your list or not is a different story though.

Apparently Sakura Wars actually has a pretty deep combat system later on into the game. And I'll say, it was very entertaining when you were voice acting, but if your throat starts to hurt from doing the voices don't bother doing them.

If you do end up reTRIing Monster Hunter Tri and decide to go online I'm about hunter rank 60 or so and I've got a keyboard so I can communicate easier so I could help you through the boring starting rank levels quicker and get you to the boss battles quicker. Then you'll either get bored of them or become it'll become another "Winged Boots Massacre".

If you end up playing Halo Reach online again I'd suggest looking at this site for some really well done maps and game types. Such as this one:

I'm sad you don't like Deadly Premontion. I think its better when you have the limitless ammo weapons from the side quests. In fact, the side quests are almost key to the game because they let you feel for every character as an individual. You have to look to the story elements more than the game play. The situation is simlilar to No More Heroes in a way.
