Unsubstantiated reports, from an 'unknown' source speaking to Eurogamer, held news of a possible Kinect sensor firmware update that would have greatly improved the accuracy of the peripheral. Namely, it would have increased Kinect's 320x240 resolution limit to 640x480 and allowed it to detect subtle hand and finger motions. Possibly getting us closer to those promised hand gesture commands in games like Ghost Recon.
Today, however, a Microsoft spokesperson has refuted those rumours while talking to CVG.
However, an MS spokesperson told CVG: "We're constantly working to expand and improve on experiences for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE, however, this rumour is completely unsubstantiated.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the fidelity of the technology and clearly consumers agree given we sold more than 2.5 million units around the world in the first 25 days Kinect was on the market."
At the moment, Kinect is selling so well that Microsoft really has no incentive to provide any firmware upgrades...at least not yet. And, of course, when something is selling well around the holiday the last thing you want to tell people is "don't buy this yet, it'll be better when we update it in a few months." Which, of course, is exactly what people should be thinking.

Ugh really they're using oh clearly no one cares because we've sold 2.5 million as an excuse? Majority of them probably don't even know the tracking could be better. 2 million of those people are just soccer moms who watch Oprah and Ellen. If it can be better make it better.

Of course they aren't gonna do jack shit for updates.. at least not yet. I recently got a kinnect and i personally think its another novelty. It's like when the Wii came out, it was fun the first few times but it got old. Too many people who aren't serious gamers are gonna eat this up, and that's why we aren't getting our firmware update.. yet.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the fidelity of the technology and clearly consumers agree given we sold more than 2.5 million units"
See now this is what happens when you don't see shit for shit. They think the shit is not shit so they continue to release this SHIT and they don't update this shit to make it not shit.
