Did you think that with the holidays past you might get a reprieve from the big push of the Kinect and motion gaming in general? If you did you would be dead wrong. And if Stephen McGill has anything to say about it he's going to make sure that Kinect is all you hear about in 2011.
McGill, MS's director of Xbox and Entertainment for the UK, spoke to Xbox World 360 for their latest issue and let them know that 2011 will "ultimately be all about Kinect."
Discussing next year's prospects, McGill added: "As for the future, we've got a brilliant line-up for 2011 but it's ultimately all about Kinect. Kinect is going to blow people's minds. They're [already] buying it, but we've got a line-up of Kinect games that will blow people away."
For good or for bad, Kinect is here to stay so we might have no choice other than to get used to it. Or, of course, we could just make 2011 "all about the PS3" instead.

I feel like it's getting to the point where the Kinect will sell like crazy-hotcakes, yet still be a net loss for how much Microsoft invested in advertising it.

Expect to see a Halo/CoD game with the ability to t-bag your fallen enemies for extra points of douchebaggery. Pelvic thrusts can be used as 1 hit kill taunts if you're more of a chach.

MS is really pushing Kinect. BBC America did a segment on the future of tech in 2011, and two "expert bloggers" came on and one of the things they talked about was the "amazing" Kinect. They basically sounded like MS spokespeople, they outlined none of the issues or problems, and just that it is soo cool. What can you say, MS knows what they're doing when it comes to marketing. People will eventually see how it is and it'll just become a novelty like the PS2 EyeToy.

Oh jesus, now if any xbox owners want to play any new games, they're saying they'd need to buy Kinect. Oh Microsoft. Oh.

Figured my stocking full of Nintendo games was a bit of a glimpse of the future. I didn't see any 360 games I wanted this holiday season because of the whole Kinect deal. Although there have been some pretty sweet discounts in the arcade section lately. Good stuff there, I tell you what. :P

Until Kinect can produce McRibs no news will ever trump the return of that sandwich.

Good Fucking Luck.
To date, there's just about one interesting game on the Kinect. Dance Central. Everything else is more of a tech demo or the opportunity to make someone look like a jackass rather then a game.
As for selling to the mainstream audience, parents had a little scare with adult game developers wanting to make pornographic PC games for the Kinect, with the obvious idiotic news going "These games are typically aimed at children!"
So, with that brilliant piece of idiocy from the news media, it's not going to go too well. And there's an interesting flow of youtube videos showing idiots after idiots smacking each other, smacking themselves against posts, elbowing or slapping children in the face...
As for targeting the core gamers. There's really no game of interest for core gamers outside of Dance Central and Child of Eden. Even then, Child of Eden is playable without Kinect and on both PS3 and 360, it being a multiplatform game. Every other game that's coming for it (Steel Battalion for exemple) is a perversion of what it used to be (Steel Battalion's awesomeness was in it's 100+ button controller, fully immersive awesome stuff).
And if they're thinking about worldwide profit. Not likely. In Europe, the PS3 Move is far more popular from what I've seen of the numbers. In China, there are so many ripoffs that it's probably not selling, and even then, China's got an ass backward mentality on enabling gaming in it's populace.
As for Japan. Kinect is already doomed, being ill-fit for their small homes, the dwindling popularity of the 360, and they're even losing their current market by censoring content on the 360 that was previously not censored (Such as the ability to show panties... I vaguely recall someone in 4PP tripping about the Physics of Dream C Club... And then there's the censorship bill that's going to pass too that'll probably cause trouble for that game, if any of you guys ever had plans on importing it to further study the... impressive physics of that game.)
Anyho... there goes my rage.
