Oh yes. There is almost no better way to start a weekend than the announcement of a new Atlus game, and this one looks pretty damn good.  Just last night Atlus announced The Cursed Crusade to be released sometime in the summer 2011 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC

“A story of salvation and survival, The Cursed Crusade brings to life the mystery and allure of the Middle Ages,” said Aram Jabbari of Atlus. “The game’s main characters are not heroes; they’re just men, susceptible to temptation, easily made to feel doubt and despair. The raw, gritty accuracy of many of the game’s historical locations is sharply contrasted by Denz and Esteban’s supernatural struggle to save their souls. Their affliction, the Templar’s Curse, threatens to accelerate their descent into hell, burning their humanity away as it engulfs the space around them in demonic flame.”

The game carries much of that dark medieval look that we enjoyed in Demon's Souls so much, with some pretty polished looking combat mechanics to boot.

So any drawback here?  Well, it's being developed by kylotonn Entertainment who is best known for Bet On Soldier: Blood Sport, a fairly standard FPS which came out in 2005, and not much else.

The trailer, however, is a sight to behold.

Looks pretty cool. I love the dark fantasy style from Demon's Souls. This seems to have that kind of vibe.

And yes yes, I know, Atlus had nothing to do with Demon's Souls other than publishing it in the Americas. My copy, imported from HK, that I had in May same year Demon's Souls got released in the west in Oct, doesn't say Atlus on it anywhere. Just Sony and From Software.

But yes, it does have that vibe. Not more so than the Demon's Souls developers next game, Project Dark. But still, this looks pretty damn cool.

Animations looks nice, but is doesn't matter if combat is just button mashing.

Give the developer a chance! Look at Mercury Steam!!

They made Jericho, but now they are a AAA developer and the torch bearers for my favorite franchise!!

    *bursts into tears*

Premise sounds awesome, but the gameplay looks a tad mediocre.

It looks cool and I like the style of the atmosphere but that hardly makes it a good game. I really want to learn more about the mechanics before I get excited for this one especially since the trailer made the gameplay look a bit like a mediocre hack and slash.

The gameplay looks like it will favor animations over control, I don't know how I feel about doing some fancy attack while there are three dudes waiting to stab me in the back as shown will happen in the trailer.

Oh god I saw the gameplay footage for Bet on Soldier, this game is doomed. Who would you give these guys a budget and not Tripwire Interactive?

The Knights Templar are a very fertile ground for game inspirations. However, in note of the actual gameplay footage I just saw, it doesn't seem very Demon's Souls-ish, if anything, bits of gameplay in the video reminded me of The Witcher more than anything else (which isn't a bad thing, if done correctly). If they are going off Demon's Souls for inspiration, then I hope the sense of resource management from defense and offense stays.

Also, the developer doesn't quite reveal the encouraging pedigree we were all hoping for, so lets hope looks aren't deceiftul (ya'know like that Lords Of Shadow game...).

Do I also see an Atlus published game getting a PC release? Finally! I do have a sneaking suspicion that it will be the lead platform, at least going off of who the developer is (Kylotonn Entertainment) and from the screenshots of the game, all look like they are from the PC version due to the level of the AF, AA and texture quality. Though I wouldn't be that surprised if another platform was the lead but then in that case, Kylotonn's experience could mean the PC will have some expertise behind it.

So yea, at the end of the day.....I really don't know.

This really reminds me of Demon Souls and Dragon Age to a extent. Which both games I loved SOOOOOOOOOOOO much. I'm really looking forward to next summer.

I'll say that it has got me kinda interested. I'm always a sucker for Medieval settings. I'm also getting a Demon's Souls and Dragon Age feel to this. I'm also getting an old PS2 hack n' slash vibe to it. Not like God of War, but more like the Lord of the Rings games (Two Towers, Return of the King).

This looks really cool, though the combat seems a little heavy.
