A few days ago Panasonic unveiled The Jungle (rawr!) a new handheld gaming device which purportedly is supposed to cater to the MMO market.  MMO Market on the go! that is.

I'm not really sure what Panasonic is doing here, but I think we can all pretty much agree that this piece of hardware is going to be a non-start from the get-go. Still, you have to stand in awe at the size of the balls they have to be going after the handheld market now.

Looking at the trailer below it's seems like Panasonic is going all in, if "in" means the announcement of 2 games for the system so far.

I honestly don't even know what to think here. Entering the MMO market is almost a near-suicidal proposition at this point, and entering the handheld market doesn't fair much better. But the MMO-Handheld market?  Is that even a market?

Mark this date and article folks. It looks like this thing will come and go pretty quickly, and then you can look like a tech-nerd when, in 10 years, you can mention the Pansonic Jungle in reference to something else obscure and gain some geek points.

It doesn't even have an appealing name. It makes my stomach churn just thinking about it.

Its clear they were working on it before the 3DS was announced, otherwise this might be pretty cool.

Oh well. I guess that's just how it is. I feel sorry for all the people who'll lose their jobs at panasonic over this.

I thought when i read the start of it that it would be like having WOW on the go or stuff like that but its actually wanting to compete with MMO markets AND handheld. Seems like a suicide mission unless they did allow Warcraft and stuff on it.

Wow...I'll give Panasonic credit for having the balls to challenge Nintendo in the handheld market, but I think they have lost the battle before it has even started.

And seriously...It looks ugly and bulky...not so portable at all.

I really don't think Panasonic will be doing good, Because already MMO games aren't popular at all these days. I mean YEAH WoW and Warcraft, but the lesser games like Maplestory or whatever aren't really big at all. Just thinking of all the dissapointed people who pick this up at stores hoping for something good but ending up like some disaster is just really sad to me. Oh well it's their problem to deal with I would try something alittle better then that.

Reminds me of those PS1 with the built-in monitor. I wonder how it will do sales-wise, its not very visually appealing.

I can see how the folks at Panasonic came up with the idea. I mean, to look at the Japanese portable gaming culture and think: hey, we might be able to do that in the US. That and lots of people are on MMOs. Lets combine them!
Good idea, but unfortunately a bad way of executing it. I certainly am not interested, and I don't know anyone who would be.

On a side note: is THIS the battlestar galactica game that we get? Damnit, bring a good one to consoles!
