Choo Choo! Looks like the fanboy train will be pulling out of the basement station cause it's gotta tank full of fuel! Today Brett Wilson, CEO and analyst of VGchartz Ltd., announced that they are expecting Black Ops to outsell MOH by whopping 4 to 1.

Preliminary day one sales are in and Medal of Honor sold around 500,000 units in the Americas across Xbox360, PS3 and PC with Xbox 360 taking around 60% of sales. Week one sales should swell to around 700,000 in the Americas and around 1.1 million when adding sales for EMEAA (Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Asia).

In comparison, VGChartz expects week one sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops to come in just below Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at around 6 million units across all platforms (based on current pre-order rates), doubling to 12-14 million by the end of the year (or around four times the sales of Medal of Honor).
I haven't seen a licking like that since the time a drunk Stephanie Swift found her way into a lesbian bachelorette party.  They also seem to think that the recently made-up Taliban controversy might have something to do with the sales.

This would bring the game in just under expectations, although 3 million sales by the end of December should be possible given strong holiday sales. It would also bring the game in well under pre-order figures tracked by VGChartz, suggesting that many may have cancelled pre-orders after playing the beta version or have maybe been turned off the game following the Taliban controversy.

Honestly, I would bet a healthy white baby that no one gave a shit about the inclusion of the Taliban, and it was probably the beta and the less than stellar reviews that had to do with the low sales.

Black Ops Set to Outsell Medal of Honor at Least 4 to 1 (VGChartz)

The fact that people living on military installations were not able to purchase it and had to go off base to buy the game could have had an effect on the sales, but that is all i could see being a reason it didn't sell as well from the whole taliban controversy.

This isn't surprising in the least. Medal of Honor wasn't even that good of a game.

Indeed. Personally though, I'm not interested in Black Ops either. Meh.

I think the "controversy" probably hurt sales, given that most people buying this lack-luster game would be parents and siblings that don't read reviews or anything, and when they hear the scare tactics of people trying to push the Taliban controversy spew, they're probably less likely to buy it.

But you're also right in that the quality of the actual game probably hurt it more.

I'm gonna go with it didn't sell because it wasn't that great of a game. Most people probably didn't even care/know about the controversy behind the game.

Poor choice of a release date. Call of Duty comes out in a month. As much as everyone rips on Modern Warfare 2, any online shooter fan picked it up. It has proven to be a fantastic series. You know you're getting a good overall game that is going to rate high when it comes out. Medal of Honor has been out of the loop for a while, and even then, it's only been "meh" ratings wise.

If you're a person who only gets three games a year, do you get the shooter that is trying to make a comeback or wait a month and get the shooter that's been getting near perfect scores for the last 3+ years? I think that's why sales did poorly. Had they waited until early next year and had something as a lure, such as better dedicated servers, they could steal a lot of the frustrated Black Ops players.

I didn't think it would be this bad, but I am someone who pre-ordered MoH months ago, but hasn't pre-ordered Black Ops and probably won't, I am just not interested in CoD anymore and just want something good that's NOT CoD.

Is that Obama 4 seats back of the crying guy?

Well anyway I am not surprised. MoH is permanently stuck in the shadow of CoD
