This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

-"The Hollow men", TS Eliot

While it may not seem like it, and you might have even forgotten amongst the Halo: Reach fervor, the PlayStation Move is being released this week.  September 19th to be exact.

A Sunday.

When many stores around the country are closed.

It's actually a fairly big moment, the second salvo in a Motion Control war that has been waging actively for a little more than a year now.  And while it seems fairly obvious that Microsoft has certainly gone all in on motion control in a way that Sony hasn't, the creators of the black-box-o-blue-ray have always been much more subtle in terms of hardware introduction.  Seemingly resistant to fanfare outside of big conventions, Sony hardware seems to show up and grow out of plain site, like a Guerrilla army, until 10 years go by and its still there at the top of the NPD's.

I did expect more than this, however, and it may just be Sony waiting for the Halo marketing machine to wind down a bit toward the end of the week before they roll out the red carpet for their new tech.  But there is a prime difference in terms of approach that I think is very important.  Sony seems much more confident in the life of their product (the PS3) than Microsoft does at this point.  In many ways, Microsoft see's Kinect as the next iteration of the 360. An Xbox 360 v 2.0 if you will, and they are banking on it heavily not only to add additional life span to a console who may be approaching the apex of its power, but also as a hub for the roll-out of new entertainment technology.

You see, Kinect is a gaming peripheral the same way that your phone is a gaming console. You can play games on it, but that is certainly not its first (and intended) use.

It will be interesting to see what the sales number look like after the first week of PS Move. Honestly, I'm not sure if they are going to be completely representative as a whole, but may act as a slight outlier to what we can expect when Kinect hits a few months down the line.  Sony's approach does give me a little more faith in their product to be honest.  There just seems to be less smoke-and-mirrors involved. I can tell you that, after trying both, the Move is much more accurate in terms of one-to-one movement. At least as it stands now.

So Sunday is D-Day for PlayStation in the Motion Control war. Keep an eye on it. And is anyone signing up?

I.... eh. Possibly. I only hesitate due to finances, Seattle trip leaves me pretty high and dry. I'd have to cash out for the PS Eye, Wand, and analog stick. Other than that, what the hell is there to even play with the PS Move right now? =\

Ugh...really? I didn't realize Move was coming out so...soon. I doubt this going to have "off the charts" sale records let alone mediocre ones (even in a few months). Reach is out this week which means people will probably be more focused on that then picking up some newfangled motion censor device for the PS3. I just hope Sony doesn't try to make Move its cash cow.

Im fine with move....but im pissed off that they chose Heavy rain move edition over DLC.... :/ Other then that im pretty happy what the move looks like. Ill stick with the move thing if it works like a charm. But i ask this....What was ever wrong with a controller?

You said "Furor" instead of Fervor lol.

I don't have a PS3, and honestly couldn't give a rats ass, this is gonna bomb, and it's going to be forgotten along with Kinect.

According to the Playstation Move website it's out on Friday 17th, not Sunday. Same is true here in europe.

I'll be picking one up and look forward to playing Resident Evil 5 after how good Resident Evil 4 was on the Wii. Other than that I don't plan to play any launch titles till something I want comes along, but I'm looking forward to Dead Space 2, LittleBigPlanet 2 and any other game I plan to play that has support.

I think a lot of hardcore are resistant to these motion controls and with Kinect I can see why. It's showed little more than mini game collections and poor accuracy. But as far as Move goes I think it has plenty of potential to be a good alternative to a normal controller. As long as it's use properly and we have a normal controller option to use also.

Oddly enough they put up signs on the entrances today at my Walmart that say that the Playstation Move is available now in electronics. For that reason, I assumed it had come out today? I didn't actually check electronics because generally speaking when my shift ends I tend to want to jet right out of the store.

    And so it all begins...

Honestly, I kind of feel sorry for the move, although like many I don't like motion controlling becoming a predominant part of gaming, out of what I have seen this is the best of the three. I would advise Sony that to lower the prices for bundles around christmas.
