This is awesome.  Lisa Katayama and Boing Boing bring us an article in which real Yakuza are taught to play Yakuza 3 then give their impressions of how realistically it depicts the lives and actions of real Yakuza.

M: I like the fact that you power up by eating real food. Shio ramen gives you a lot of power — CC Lemon, not as much. It all makes sense.
S: The breaded pork cutlet bento box is like mega power. More than ramen. That's accurate.
K: If they had shabu (crystal meth) as a power-up item, that would be realistic. It's a yakuza game.
S: They have sake!
M: Kiryu is an executive, right? We all know the guys at the top don't drink or do speed.
S: Yeah, not anymore.
M: Can you smoke in the game? I forget. That should be a power-up.
S: Cigarettes and shabu should be in every yakuza game.

These guys need to be given their own show where they can comment on every Japanese game ever made.  I would pay a monthly fee to watch that once a week.  Oh and SEGA USA, the Yakuza want a word with you.

After I explain to him what Sega cut from the US version, he said: アメリカ版を買った奴がかわいそうだ。セガUSAが最低だね.(Translation: I feel sorry for the people who bought the American version. SEGA USA sucks.)

SEGA USA sucks CONFIRMED by Yakuza!

I know, I posted this in the news thread for the next podcast, as when I saw the title I was intrigued. Then "SEGA USA sucks" made my day.

That was a really good read, and it's nice to know that the creators of the game got it so close to the real Yakuza.

    That's pretty effin' rad.

Now I know that, when I need to kill someone, breaded pork cutlet is my choice of meal before I do so.

    That's a really great read :D

It's really interesting to see how detailed they made their game in relation to being faithful to the Yakuza. They have a depth to them in regards to honour and respect that's just more intriguing than gangsters or mobsters, especially the people in the interview; I genuinely felt they were likeable and friendly people.

When I told my buddy who played the Japanese version that they cut the hostess club, he told me we were actually spared.

I don't know if you know this already but Yakuza 4 looks like it's defiantly coming to the UK.

lol, that's freaking awesome. It's refreshing to see someone pissed at the censorship here in America. It reminded me of the recent Japancast when Morning Mizume had to answer fan questions and I was suprised by some of the answers. The world is becoming interesting.

Haha, what a silly read but very interesting way to review a game. It's good to know how accurate it is while still being a fun and entertaining game. I would definitely read more reviews from those guys, haha.

Interesting to see that most of the things shown about the Yakuza in game were actually accurate to their real life counterparts. It was surprising to find out that Kiryu's Dragon tattoo was looked as "Unimpressive" in the Yakuza world, when in the game, everyone knows about it. (I do suppose the event in the first game prevented him from completing it or expanding on it, similar to what one of the 3 said)

Great reading overall, and it only gets me more excited for when the 4th one hits the states (Hopefully with no major edits this time, Sega USA...)

Oh my god that is an awesome idea, can they get more reviews like this (ie done from the people who really do the stuff you do in the game)

Yakuza aren't really anything more then punks with knives, motorcycles, and the mentalities of middle schoolers though..

    Let's face facts..
