Defense Secretary Liam Fox is either a moron or a subhuman for pandering to the lowest common denominator's most base emotion. Lets get that clear now. To make matters even worse, he is probably also either ignorant or outright lying in order to do it. In case you haven't been informed, there is currently a made up controversy over the fact that you can play as the Taliban in the new Medal of Honor game. This has mostly been ginned up by the festering dregs at "news" outlet FOX News who seem to have nothing better to do recently other than try to make white people scared of brown people.
Appearing in today's Sunday Times, Liam Fox jumped on the stupid-train with some remarks that obviously come from a part of his brain that have been unsuccessful at evolving to a degree as to make rational thought a forefront endeavor,
"It's shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban," he said.
"At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands.
"I am disgusted and angry. It's hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game.
"I would urge retailers to show their support for our armed forces and ban this tasteless product."
Said pasty-faced chubbyman who has the power to blow up people far away, obviously unaware that there are no British soldiers in the game. Of course people are reacting in this way simply to score political points and ratings from fat-ignorant housewives and balding white-sneaker-and-blue jeans, fanny pack wearing fathers who are terrified of everything not them, and have become ravenously obsessed with protecting their children from the unknowable dangers of the world.
Of course no one makes a big deal about people playing Japanese and killing Americans in WWII multiplayer games, or playing Germans doing the same thing. And no one cares about being Russians in Modern Warfare games killing Americans either. Why? Because terrorists are scary brown people and it is currently in vogue for brown people to be scary.
Ban 'tasteless' Medal Of Honor, demands MP (Computer and Video Games)

I think the media is truly overreacting.

Haha, Don't worry. This will slide over rather quickly. The thing I am concerned about is the amount of sheer retarded people in places of Governmental authority. It would be one thing if it was the average corrupt fat white guy, but from the looks of it you can actually have a mental condition to get a powerful seat.

I REALLY hope one day the media will get past this nonsense. What about television? What about movies? Does the fact that it is interactive experience mean people are more likely to know exactly how to pick up a gun and use it to kill fellow Americans(...or British people) as opposed to the other more respected media?
I don't know man....ignorant people these days; FOX in particular.
Way to tell it like it is Joseph. Your posts are always a delight to read and in many cases informative as well.

Wow, I didn't even want this game but this guy is gonna make me buy a copy to fight stupidity. I feel like I need to play a part in getting this to no. 1 in the UK charts.

'Thoroughly un-British?' Wow, not only is he "appalled" by the Taliban characters but also that its not British enough. Well the solution is to put more Britian's in there and blow them up too.

Oh...stupid, stupid, oh so stupid old people. You can never not amuse me

I hate when people like him try to think for other people rather than asking people.
Let people decide for themselves if they want to buy the game or not.
He clearly is not so high and mighty as Wikipedia states "He voted for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. " as well as "being an outspoken supporter of the war in Afghanistan "
So it seems he dose not care about sending other people to war as long as he gets paid.

Un-Brittish? What the hell does that even mean? I don't like terrorism either, does that make me Brittish? Maybe his ideal game is where you play as Big Ben, wave to the queen, and eat spotted dick.

"Because terrorists are scary brown people"

I guess he has never heard of the game COUNTER STRIKE

Does he not also forget that both US and UK soldiers have or will at some point also kill other soldiers that have families? Soldiers are as much murderers as the Taliban but they have do it for a different reason. Also, we didnt ban CoD over here or GTA:SA despite mindless bloodshed in the airport or being able to pop the head off a pensioner for the lols?
Our goverment... jeez...

I liked the point Joseph brought up about the other games featuring the opposing forces killing the Americans and how everyone seems to not care about those anymore. Hypocrisy I say! Hipocrisy!

The ability to play as the "opposition" force in multiplayer shooters has been around for a long time. What these pundits and politicians don't understand is that the player does not feel any connection to the faction they choose in the game. All of the manipulative devices of single player (music, story, scenarios, character), that cause a player to actually relate to the cause they are fighting for are absent from the multiplayer experience. The barebones gameplay experience of multiplayer means that the faction one chooses only really determines the skin the player wears and nothing more.

I guess freedom of speech is un-British to this guy as well.
