Woah Ubisoft! Slow down there big fella'!

Today Ubisoft is announcing a huge sales increase thanks to popular titles like Splinter Cell: Conviction (1.9 million units sold) and previous games like Assassins Creed II and Just Dance still pulling in the cold hard cash.

"Our sales performance this quarter reflects the success of several titles and attests to the quality of our game catalog. It’s proof of Ubisoft’s ability to make its mark in an ever demanding video games sector, “ said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “This year’s E3 further confirmed the potential for our end-of-year line-up, demonstrating how varied and distinct our offering is.”

“Proven franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Driver and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon will offer unique experiences for seasoned gamers. In particular, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood should allow us to reaffirm our position as one of the industry’s best multiplayer developers. The preorders are the strongest ever seen, already 20 percent above those from the same period last year, even before the awards were announced following E3.”
Honestly I'm not so sure that Driver is going too have the legs that Ubisoft is hoping it will.  Sure its going to have immediate sale power through name recognition but we're going to have to see if the game can actually live up to the name.  People have been unimpressed with the latest iterations of the series, and that might lead some to take a "wait and see" approach to the title.  It was announced just recently that the title has been pushed back to 2011 so hopefully this will give them time to flush our ideas and, perhaps, make the vehicle switching system make a little more sense.

No word yet on how Battle Tag will effect future sales numbers.

Driver Tried so hard to fit in with the times: The minute GTA III hit the market, they were like "sh*t guys we need to try to match that", and ended up tarnishing its name in the process.I hope they are able to put the good name of driver back on the saddle, but Ubisoft has 65% let down ratio( In my opinion), so we'll see how it goes!

Well, I guess there's two ways I can look at this... I've felt Ubisoft has been pretty meh lately- they've had ownership over some of the best franchises and innovative engines and recently they seem to be taking that for granted and bungling things. This could mean that they're coming to and will put the increased money from sales towards furthering themselves and their products... but it could also mean that they will become content with the massive increase and feel that they do not have to further themselves because they've already hit the top. Which they have not, we still have to see how well their games will do in the latter half of 2010. Here's to hoping.

If Driver fails Ubisoft always has Battle Tag and that Breathing game to fall back on.

I don't think Driver has as large of a potential to fail as hard as it would have if this were to be released a couple of couple of years ago. They may be reaching for nostalgia with some people, but I think where they may really have the potential to succeed is with the younger gamers that aren't as familiar with the series. Couple that with how they're trying to steer it towards gameplay similar to Burnout or NFS, then it may have more potential to succeed with it's original target audience as well.

I think if anything they're trying to break away from being branded a gta clone. If they can do that, then even if the game doesn't do well, they'll have still made progress.

A 93% sales increase? Wishful thinking, Ubisoft.

Wow, last time Ubisoft was doing this well was when their uncle died.
They were included in his will...
    He was very wealthy...
