If there is anything that really tugs at the nostalgia roots of old gaming, especially around the mid to late 90's, it would have to be really poorly done Full Motion Video Cut scenes. With more powerful computers in the home and the introduction of the CD for consoles, it became the standard bearer of the "good game." That thing that all developers thought separated their titles from the pack. Ultimately, however, they are now regarded in the same light as mood rings, the leisure suit and those shoes with the huge soles your father wore at your mothers wedding.
Thankfully they are back in the new Twisted Metal game.
Speaking on his blog, David Jaffe had this to say:
"We also have around 35-45 minutes of live action and- when it's done- super cool stories in the game (more than- I THINK- we've ever done)."
Considering the costuming they are choosing I think we just found ourselves a one way ticket to nostalgia town!
Jaffe also had some words for those who are fearful that some of the missions may be nothing more than GTA style mission clones.
"please keep in mind this Twisted Metal single player and co-op will be more varied than ANY TM you've ever played. We are NOT doing GTA style missions or vehicle escorts and such BUT we DO have mechanics laid on top of the core campaign deathmatch that adds to the play varied so you don't get bored. We also have more bosses than any TM game...'
...So while you may be disappointed by the fact that there are currently no plans for Marcus Kane or Bloody Mary or No Face, please know that the one player/campaign game you DO get is going to be the best one we've ever made."
So it seems that while people are all up in arms on the intranets, Jaffe and Company are still hammering out design concepts over breakfast. Dear Internet, calm the fuck down.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to rage some more about Dragon Age 2

So, does that mean more cheesy endings like the "Big Red" Lost ending? Sounds pretty fucking sweet to me, because they were funny as hell.

Why? FMV cut-scenes is all but dead and for good reason, they never turn out good. They're always awkward and cheesy.

This must buy game for me just keeps getting better.
And yes.... Keep raging =/

I'm glad they decided to keep with the FMV, it was definitely part of what made Twisted Metal so awesome and just further added to the sillyness, which, in my opinion, is kinda what this game's all about :3 Well...except for the really dark storylines..

Delicious. I expect them to be in the quality of the live action in the E3 trailer, shit should be pretty awesome. Cannot wait to see how they act out the new Dollface. It blows, however, that it's still almost a full year before the release.
