You should know that I have an erection. It protrudes from me like the proud prow of a mighty Spanish galleon. And I have given it a name. Vanquish it shall be.
I had some time to play Platinum Games' sci-fi action game and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since. Produced by Atsushi Inaba, the creative mind behind God Hand, Madworld and Steel Battalion, it is filled with over the top action and huge mega-bosses that is reminiscent of the Bayonetta series. Sure the asses might not be as nice but it makes up for it with some of the most fluid and intense firefight action I've had the pleasure of playing in a very long time.
The ease of using cover in this game is unmatched by any game that I've seen recently. Controls are snappy and responsive without "sticking" at inopportune times. Your main character has a slide maneuver that allowes him to zoom across the ground on his knees toward cover and then seamlessly take that cover. A completely useful and fantastic tool when the action gets too hot.
Vehicle piloting and hijacking, huge boss battles and beautiful environments. All this even from just the small taste of the demo and rumour has it (being rumor coming out of Brad Simons' mouth) that the things shown behind closed doors even put that to shame.
Check out the E3 demo that was available to play below. Vanquish is set to release this winter for the 360 and the PS3.

Viewing the gameplay, the slide mechanic seems a bit excessive.
The duration really needs to be shortened if it has that quick of a cooldown/regeneration (Check the bar on the bottom right folks.)
I was pretty psyched by earlier displays of the game, I guess it'll simply be a matter of seeing it once released, or at the very least in its last days of development.

I first found out about vanquish from brad when he got chat to post a link to the first trailer, and now i really want to play it. It looks like a fast paced 3d person shooter, and i can't wait to see it finished

It definitely looks badass.
So many games I'm suddenly keeping track of now.

Looks good. The only complaint would be the player's performance since it sorta looks like they don't know that they're doing, but that's not really a surprise.

I'm liking where this is going. I'm glad to hear that nothing sticks in this game (as far as we know). That was a big concern I had out of the gate.
Everything looks good but I'm not sure that I'm blown away just yet. I'm sure once I play it my mind about that will change. lol

This should be the first article on the homepage for a few months, so that any new visitors are greeted with "You should know that I have an erection. It protrudes from me like the proud prow of a mighty Spanish galleon."
Anyways, I don't like 1st person shooters, but I love 3rd person shooters, so I'm actually really interested. I think this is the kind of game where I would have to it play myself before judging it though.

...the helmets still look retarded. At least Isaac Clarke had slits in them around his eye area. It just seems like the designers tried to do something different for the sake of doing something different, and it didn't matter if it lacked any tangible logic. It's like the Gun Blade, but with a helmet. Eh.
Apart from that, this game is shaping up to be all sorts of crazy awesome. The boost slide animation probably could do with some work, like the character tilting and turning when you adjust the yaw, but something tells be that probably won't be changed. Still, freaking ass-jets and shooting down 80ft robots are already the signs of a fun game.

this is why i love gaming. the freedom to make what you want and see it unfold. i REALLY hope this game sells well. i mean, they made a 3rd person shooter feel more like an action/fighter then a shooter.
