Below the fold you will find the newest trailer for Medal of Honor (2010).  The tone this trailer sets for this game is perfect, and if they can keep it up in the main game we are not only going to see a truly visceral experience but an emotional one as well.

The emotional experience of war is something I feel has been somewhat lost in games recently, with those feelings being replaced with a sort of bromance (HOO-RA) atmosphere.

If the new Medal of Honor can bring this back then I think we are in for a really deep and fantastic experience.

Check out the trailer after the jump.

the soundtrack real shows that it'll be emotional. that depends on the story though. i mean what story could there possibly be thats emotional for a realistic shooter? you walk down a road for 3 hours and jimmy jimmy gets offed from nowhere?

look at the way brothers in arms told a story, i felt the story in that more emotional than others in war games, hitting someones emotion with a game that deals with war is from the family side and friendship both overseas and back home. if they focus on the aspect of your never seeing your family again or your losing someone close and there being nothing you can do, that can strike something emotionally in a shooter to me at least.

IS SOMEBODY GONNA DIE IN THIS GAME??!?!?!?

That's kind of a soap-y way to manufacture an emotional response. It doesn't help that the game's gonna follow multiple people and they're all supposed to be "tier 1 operations," so that's gonna numb/question the existence of this kind of tacked-on overdramatic crap...

I don't know what I want though man. Can a war game be about war like Apocalypse Now or The Hurt Locker was about war? Can we, you know, cut the shit? If you've gotta kill a lot of people in order to motivate a character, you're doing it wrong.

I really don't know what to think of this. On one hand, it's a game - they're going to have to make cuts to realism in the name of having fun, but on the other hand it seems like they're going to tell the story of a soldier, rather than the Modern Warfare Michael Bayisms we've been seeing.

Can EA balance the two well enough?

In all honesty, i thought this trailer was a cheap gimmick to make people go... "aw, medal of honor is srs bsns."
Ive probably seen this exact scene in over 10 movies. just because its in a video game doesn't mean im goign to cream myself.

^ I'm kind of thinking that too. The whole thing kind of felt generic, right down to the music. Still, I think if they do manage to pull it off, it would be a step back into a better direction.

I agree that current war games have sort of desensitized us behind the real stories behind war. Yes we are fighting and killing people in order to protect our home/worlds, but we cannot ignore the fact that War involves human lives.

From what I've seen lately, it's not the bromance that messes with the experience, it's the contrived plots, scripted sequences and overly dramatic and fancy presentation.

Oh mu God I take back everything I said about this game. This looks like it'll actually impress me with its storyline.

If they can balance emotional investment and characters you actually care about, along with the horrors of war, then we should be in for something special.

Always been a MoH fan from the beginning. This looks freakin' awesome. I was playing COD today for the fist time and realized how there was no emotion and I as thinking about what if it was real life and stuff. Then I see this and it's like, "Awesome. I as just thinking about some emotional shooter." Can't wait to play this.

While the gameplay will probably be more of the same, hopefully a more somber tone can give this game at least a shred of uniqueness. In any case, I certainly like it better than what modern day military shooters have become: a bad parity with hollywood blockbusters.

If the game can keep that psychological heaviness tone throughout the game and be complimented by the gameplay and etc. I might actually play my first Medal of Honor :)
