It was reported earlier today that Yakuza 3 is coming to the states. Thanks everyone who sent this in. I don't know if this should come off as a shock to anyone. We had all been waiting for this announcement earlier this fall when rumors got out that it would be coming.
What's even more interesting is the series itself. The exploration of the Yakuza underworld and this character who is an amazingly justice driven person. From reading the official announcement you'll understand what I mean.
As Kiryu works to begin a new life running an orphanage in Okinawa, the world he left behind in Tokyo also moves quickly. When the chairman of the Tojo clan is shot and the rivalry between the families plunges the city into chaos, even Okinawa is not far enough away to escape the grasp of the mysterious forces pulling the strings.
Then, when one of Kiryu’s close friends in Okinawa is found with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, things take a new turn for the worse. Driven to protect his friends, the Dragon is alive again – Kiryu returns to the dark city of Kamurocho, and will stop at nothing to find those responsible and give them his own taste of justice.
I mean seriously. This ex-Yakuza is running an orphanage? That's what I love about this series. I can't wait until March when it's supposedly released. Any word on who's bringing it over?

Oh god, first FFXIII was announced for march, now Yakuza 3?
I don't think March 2010 can get any more awesome

Haha. I came to 4playerpodcast.com as soon as I heard the news on Kotaku, only to find it already on the front page.

The info was posted on the playstation blog. It appears that Sega and Sony are going to be publishing the game here in the states.

Now just keep your fingers crossed for the spin off and Yakuza 4 to eventually make it our way too.

They better not be jerking us around. This is one of those few games that is something I would buy Day 1 of it's release.

best news of the year

I'd care if Yakuza actually worked on the 80GB PS3 or if they put Yakuza 1 & 2 on the PS3 like GoW1&2. God of War 3 is going to overshadow games like Final Fantasy & Yakuza though.

@DNAgent: Do you mean the 80 GB software backwards compatible PS3? If so then the second Yakuza will work fine but the first one has some bugs. The second has a story recap of the first and is better all around, so I would pick it up.
This is great news. I'm glad the Japanese voices will remain, it was a little weird watching David pick up Yakuza 1 a week or so ago and hear the English voices again, it just doesn't fit as well for some reason. I would think it is cheaper to do so as well, it won't have to sell much to recoup the costs.

It just needs to sell well here in the States and then Sega won't even have to give Yakuza 4 localization a second thought like they did with this one :|

@school The first Yakuza has a game breaking bug that they say is fixed on the site when it's not. The game freezes at a point that is impossible to get past by waiting or resetting. Also, I'm not playing the 2nd Yakuza if I haven't hardly played the first. If all I cared about is the story then I would just watch someone play through the whole game or read up on it. Unless I actually play through the first game then I think it's pointless to care about any future Yakuza games. I mean not even Sony cares about fixing it to begin with.

@DNAgent: What I was saying is that the first game's mechanics are superseded by the second game. The only thing you are missing out on by not playing the first is the story but it is covered in the second game. Thus I recommended it because you aren't missing anything. I know, I got to the same bug half way through the first game on the PS3 but then picked up the second one and it worked wonderfully and I really enjoyed it.
