What is it with this club and doggos (rhetorical question, I TOTALLY get it)? The results are in from our latest poll and ‘Sleeping Dogs’ (also known as Sleepy Dogs) is our clear winner with 34.6% of the vote!

This underrated gem (a gemmie?) was developed by United Front Games and released in 2012 by Square Enix. For the uninitiated, Sleeping Dogs was originally planned as an entry in the True Crime series before it was eventually cancelled by Activision-Blizzard and bought by Square. It’s a flashy open-world action game that closely resembles Grand Theft Auto but draws inspiration from Chinese action films. You play as an undercover Hong Kong police detective who is attempting to infiltrate and take down a Triad organization. It blends traditional open world design with martial arts focused melee combat that, if I remember correctly, was pretty darn fun.

The game was well received at launch but has since seen the release of a definitive edition which apparently smoothes out some of the rough edges. It has developed a cult following over the years with support for a sequel building. The game is available on most console platforms as well as PC. If anyone else picked up the recent Square Enix catalog bundle benefitting COVID-19 relief, this game was included.

Given current events, we are still waiting to reschedule our Okami podcast but in the meantime, feel free to get started on Sleepy Dogs! I am personally looking forward to playing this game again because the story was pretty fun and I am eager to see how the definitive edition improved the overall experience! The new Discord channel is available now. You know what to do!

If you are interested in partaking in the discussions in Discord while you play, consider supporting us on Patreon or Twitch. We will also be looking for a community guest to join Nick for the podcast recording at the end of the month. Even if you aren't a paid supporter, we hope some of you are inspired to play along. If that's the case, at least let us know down in the comments!
