Nick wound up and on the defensive with respect to liking high fantasy (or lack there of) made for a really entertaining podcast.

I picked a helluva show to catch live again. It was a blast.
The whole fantasy debacle got me thinking about different genres, and I've come to the realization that I find traditional Tolkien-esque high fantasy boring as sin. We live in a post-Endless Legend world. That's a game with Elves, Humans, Wizards, Dragons -- you name it. The catch is, it's a scifi game but it STILL does fantasy better than most elfshit sword and sorcery fiction I see around.
We need more interesting settings if fantasy is to stay fresh.
(Narnia still gets a pass though)

Brad asking Nick "James Bond or Gimli?" got me thinking all week about Gimli playing James Bond. Or maybe Legolas would be a better James Bond with Gimli backing him up as his gadget-master Q. I feel like this has been done before but it tickles me to imagine Gimli playing blackjack, constantly losing, becoming increasingly irate and drunk. In the climatic confrontation, he would interrupt the villian's maniacal monologues with his crass insults, before being dunked into a pool of sharks only to kill them with his bare hands.
"Gimli," he would say, "son of Glóin."
