Not a lot of people seem to know or care too much about Sony's other new IP, Until Dawn. Given it's relatively long but quiet development cycle and the track record of it's studio, Supermassive Games, it's easy to see why. On top of that, it certainly doesn't have the notoriety of established franchises like Uncharted or even vaporware like The Last Guardian but given Sony's track record with original IP, i'm willing to take a leap of faith.
As you can tell from the new trailer, the developers aren't shying away from trying to deliver on the concept of an interactive horror film. The game is absolutely gorgeous and the acting does the hamfisted nature of the genre justice. Gameplay seems to emphasize split second decision making and puzzle solving over resource management; giving it a vibe akin to something like Heavy Rain or Telltale's The Walking Dead. Thankfully, the game generates some good ol' fashion scares thanks to the beautifully crafted environments and some deliciously evil camera angles. Regardless, I think it goes without saying that this one could be a doozy for the broadcast.
Horror films, especially the classics, are beloved for what many refer to as "camp." All of the things that make a good horror movie campy appear to be in full effect here.
- A group of horny teenagers taking an unsupervised vacation in a secluded mountain cabin? CHECK!
- Busty blonde running for her life from a masked lunatic while wearing nothing but a towel? CHECK!
- Insightful realizations about what is truly important in life that arrive just in time for a characters untimely demise? CHECK CHECK CHECK!
While my instinct is to withold my optimism, I can't help but be swept away in the dream of what this game can be. I have always had a thing for campy slasher flicks which is why Scream still ranks high as one of my favorite film franchises of all time. On top of that, the game seems to be straddling the line between slasher film and supernatural horror which has me intrigued. All i'm saying is that fans of the genre or fans of our sissy screams might want to keep their eye on this one... you know... just in case.

Does look good have yet to play an interactive game that had tense and tight controls like Heavy Rain hopefully this game can give me just that.
