I really really really liked the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, largely due to the fleshed-out and human Lara Croft brought out thanks to Camilla Luddington's excellent performance and Rhianna Pratchett's strong characterization. The announcement of Rise of the Tomb Raider at Microsoft's press conference today, then, was a major shock to the system for me - and a huge source of excitement.
In the trailer, we see the humanity of Lara Croft deepening further. Severely - and justifiably - damaged from the events of the first game, the hooded woman we see sitting before a psychiatrist (and apparently defying his advice to attempt to live a normal life and move on) is a fascinating look at what the usual trials of a video game adventure put the character through. As a huge fan of Spec Ops: The Line, this idea of examining what makes video game characters tick on a psychological level and exploring the concept that humans should not be able to handle these things is so exciting to me.
There's little doubt this trailer is CG, sadly, but the thematic introductions presented here put Rise of the Tomb Raider incredibly high on my hype list. Check out the trailer for yourself:

The icy setting was doing nothing but remind me of the Tomb Raider movie.

That trailer really got me hyped and I look forward to playing this game. The cave scene really got me excited.

Oh snap!
I also really like the last Tomb Raider. Sure, it wasn't very "tomb raiderish", but I had one hell of a time! I was laughing madly with Lara in that scene with the grenade launcher and I was pumped when climbing the palace to that last boss fight! "Hell yeah bitch! I'm coming for you! You're going down!". If I'm entertained, I assumed the game has fulfilled its raison d'être.
The catharsis is a huge hook for me and every protagonist should have one... the change, this malleability, is what makes them protagonists in the first place.
And a chase sequence with a bear... Nick's dream! :P

I'm hoping they take the foundation of the first, play up the exploration/puzzles more, and downplay the shooting. Also hope to see gameplay in the near future!

I'm tired of "Rise" in titles. Fuck you, Christoper Nolan. First "bwaaam", now "Rise, Rises, Rising, Arises"...

None of these CG trailers really managed to excite me. Game could be cool when I see it though.

Surprised the trailer had Lara in therapy. Shows some awareness that her origin story in the last game made no sense. Why would she ever want more of that?

So far out of the new stuff announced today, this is the only thing I am looking forward to playing. I would suggest checking out the comic that bridges the two games.

I really enjoyed Tomb Raider 2013 and if this is anything like the version they release for PS4 and XboxOne I'm optimistic. One thing I would like is maybe a tomb or two to raid. You know maybe more than 3 puzzles. Heck I'd be happy with 8. Please at least 8 puzzles in this game.

More Tomb Raider is always welcome!

I actually wasn't expecting a new Tomb Raider reveal so soon so this is a welcome surprise. Hopefully they'll have more interesting tombs and better side characters this time around.
Also Zack, fist bump for being a fan of Spec Ops: The Line.

At least she is in therapy. No normal person would get out of that chaos and live without any mental trauma.
