Yup, you read that right, a new IP from Nintendo. Splatoon is a colorful third-person, 4vs4, multiplayer shooter with a bit of a twist. You'll be spraying your opponents with ink instead of bullets. In fact, you'll be spray everything with ink. The premise behind Splatoon is off the wall but simple. You're a bunch of transformable squid girls using your ink to spray anything and anyone in sight and when the timer runs out, the team with the most ink-sprayed territory wins. It's reminiscent and probably takes some inspiration from the Wii game de Blob.

Several mechanics make Splatoon not just another third-person shooter. For starters, as squid girls, you can transform from your humanoid form into squid form. Your own ink pools will increase your mobility, boosting your speed and even allowing you to wall climb, while stepping on any opposing ink will slow you to a crawl. It's not all about blasting the course with ink as any squid girls you take down will explode, painting the area with your own colors. Sneak attacks are also present as staying still in your own ink will hide you until the time is right.

Leave it to Nintendo to create a shooter that isn't all about blood and kill counts. Splatoon has the potential to be a great team based multiplayer game where working together towards a common goal trumps lone-wolfing it. It is such a unique and insane idea that you can't help but love the concept along with the vibrant world. The gameplay looks highly innovative and it really sets itself apart from the rest of the overplayed, dull military shooters that have been plaguing us for ages. It would seem part of the 4PN community agrees as SykoShadow had this to say:

Splatoon, a new IP for Nintendo, and it looks so fucking cool. I love the idea of swimming in my own fluids #4PNE3

Great job Nintendo.

Splatoon is set to release sometime in 2015.

I was hoping for Nintendo to make a new 1st party single player IP, but I'm not gonna lie, this looks pretty cool. I am interested in seeing more of the paint mechanics, I do like how you can travel inside your own paint color.

It's like reverse Mario Sunshine, and this actually looks really fun. Definitely interested in this.

Looks kinda neat. I instantly get a De Blob vibe from it and I dig the bright and stylish visuals.

Oh man, this reminds me of one of the game modes in those party battle games that used to be really popular. I think it was like a Cartoon Network mashup or a Crash Bandicoot thing, was really a lot of fun. Glad that the WiiU is getting some cool conceptual games like this, really makes me want one.

Definitely colorful and charming, and seems like the sort of game that would be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I think I'd much rather have mouse precise aiming.

Looks cool. The art direction seems fun and dynamic. Not much into multi-player shooters but hey, it's a new Nintendo IP.

I like the look of it. Neat mechanics, and being kid-friendly will keep away 12-year-olds who shout slurs over voice chat because they'll think it's for babies.
