Ubisoft really love their insane antagonists don't they? Far Cry 4's reveal trailer was the first thing they showed at their press conference and while entertaining, I felt the impact just wasn't the same as its predecessor, Far Cry 3. The six minute cinematic trailer showed no gameplay and doesn't do much to introduce anything other then the probable antagonist of the game, Pagan Min. The main character doesn't even get the chance to utter more then a couple lines of gibberish and cussing before being upstaged by the entrance of Pagan. Haven't we seen this before?

At first glace Pagan Min very much seems like a reskinned, blond-haired version of Vaas, another insane sociopath who'll discard underlings in a blink of an eye. However, watching and rewatching the trailer, a few lines of dialogue jumped out at me that could potentially reveal Pagan as more then just a Vaas 2.0.

"Get up boy, I'd recognize those eyes anywhere." Followed by a chuckle and a hug. At first I thought it might mean they were related by blood, but that was quickly dashed by the selfie they took together. So in the first few minutes of the game Pagan already knows the protagonist with whom he has a complex, maybe twisted relationship. Already things are looking more interesting.

"You, and I, are going to tear shit up!" This line made my mind go in the complete opposite direction. What if Pagan was actually an ally and not the game's antagonist? How awesome would that be to have this clearly insane man helping you throughout the whole campaign?

Update: Far Cry 4's gameplay trailer was shown at the PS4 presser and boy was it a doozy.

If the cinematic trailer gave you any doubts, then the gameplay demonstration will probably relieve you of your fears. I felt like it perfectly encompassed the spirit of everything that made Far Cry 3 fun while also showcasing several of the new abilities, weapons, and mechanics. Because the game takes place mostly in a mountainous setting, verticality seemed to take greater precedent, which they rightfully displayed with the new grappling hook and the old but trusty wingsuit. All in all, Ubisoft picked the most perfect seven minutes of gameplay they could've shown. Who in their right mind doesn't want to play a game with headbutting, explode-proof elephants?

So how did you react to Pagan Min's reveal? How about the gameplay reveal? Excited? Disappointed? Let us know in the comments below or tweet with the hash tag #4PNE3.

Far Cry 4 is slated to release on November 18, 2014 for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Well at Sony's press conference, they showed co-op but it wasn't Pagan Min. At first glance, I also thought he might be are co-op partner but now I don't know. We will see what's the deal with that guy.

It'd be cool if they were aware that people liked Vaas more than Jason and making this guy an ally. I like it when developers learn.

I like how everyone was more offended by the villain when we knew nothing about him than when we found out this Asian character is played by a blond California dude

This impressed me a whole lot. I think that Ubisoft has kept the train rolling along just fine with FC4. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

What about that ps4 exclusive "friends can play with one game" thing? is that online or split-screen?

Far Cry 3 was in my top 3 that year, this is prob my most anticipated game this year. Wing-suiting from atop of a Himalayan peak to the base at the bottom looked so much fun. I can't wait for this one.
