Year of Toad? Nintendo has dipped their hand into the Mario bench as they reveal the star of their new game will be the series' long-standing sidekick, Toad. Captain Toad levels were first seen in Super Mario 3D World and it seems Nintendo has deemed the reception postive as the concept has been expanded into its own game, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Wii U.

Captain Toad levels were bite-sized, puzzle-based stages where players had to collect stars while avoiding the stages' numerous pitfalls. The levels were neat distractions from the main game in 3D World so creating a whole game with them is a welcome surprise. No mention if it'll be a retail or downloadable title but if you're a fan, it probably won't either way.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is slated for release Holiday 2014.

I don't think they waited for reception before they started working on this. Surprising to say the least.

I didn't see this one coming. It's...surprising, to say the least.

Looks somewhat unique at least. Don't really care that its Captain Toad, as long as the game is good.
