The Daylight discussion is very relevant to the current state of horror as a viable gaming genre. Though it could have been executed better, it was important in some way that they tried working with procedural generation as a mechanic to let other potential developers learn from their mistake.

It may have come at the cost of a mediocre game(coming from the reviews I've seen on and off the site), but none the less we can learn just as much from why something didn't work as with a big hit.
We know Fatal Frame was successful due to the stress of ghosts. They chased you, even through walls, sneak up and toss voices. On top of that, you have to go into a disorientating first person mode to fight it head on. What that shows it is often fighting your fears that makes a good horror game as opposed to easily trying to escape from it. I personally see more dread from having to fight, but Fatal Frame also made unfightable ghosts to make you run.
Daylight also doesn't change the rules, so there is no fear of uncertainty. We as people often fear what we do not know which is also why sometimes getting lost is great for horror. However, this game was unable to accomplish this for most it seems.
I won't know first hand until I get my hands on it myself somehow. That's the way horror is especially. I can read and watch videos about the game all I like, but until the experience is mine to bear I wont feel the personal connection to the fear to fairly asses the game.

    wooo podcast!
