Though the Playstation 4 will still have its basic functions right out of the box, players will still want to download the console's day one 1.50 update in order to get the system "properly" up and running. Without it, you won't be able to access Remote Play, online multiplayer, party chat, and then some.

Not only is downloading an 308MB patch upon starting up the console a bugger, it's also just begging for trouble with what will undoubtedly be swamped servers on Sony's end. You can circumvent this by grabbing your flash drive and heading over to Sony's official guide for installing the update without having to download it on your Playstation 4 which contains the file and all of the instructions you'll need.

Launch-day patches for new consoles suck, but they are now the norm. The Wii U's patch was infamously bad and the Xbox One's patch will be necessary to do basically anything, so sadly, it looks like we'll have to get used to it.

Though I won't be getting a ps4 anywhere near the future, it's nice to know that Sony are thinking ahead.

No surprises here since MS and Nintendo did the exact same thing.
