Frictional Games have made a name for themselves as one of the biggest names in interactive horror. Having crafted numerous games in the Penumbra series and then introducing the world to Amnesia, one of the most intense, psychological horror games the genre has to offer. Obviously, when this studio teases a new project in an dramatically different setting, horror enthusiasts listen.
After handing off the development of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs to The Chinese Room, there was a lot of questions revolving around what the studio would work on next? Would they return to their beloved Penumbra series and apply what they learned from Amnesia? Would they develop a true, traditional sequel to The Dark Descent? Or would they try something new entirely? Well it looks like we are getting closer to finding our answer.
Frictional has released 2 live-action teasers that offer a disturbing glimpse at the new universe they are creating (Codenamed SOMA). Surprisingly, the team appears to be taking a stab at science-fiction horror which I have no problem with at all. If the short films are any idication, the story will revolve around a space crew stumbling across a strange machine that may be haunted or self-aware... or both! The teasers are incredibly unsettling (to me atleast) and I can't wait to see what the game is like when it is finally unveiled.

Man, this stuff freaks me out. I can't wait for more of them to come out and to see what the game looks like as well.

Those videos give off an almost SCP vibe, as they're experimenting with the unknown and potentially dangerous mass of technology. Very promising.
