At Sony's Gamescom conference, Ubisoft showed a new trailer for Watch Dogs and formally announced a partnership with New Regency Productions with the aim of producing a film based upon the game.

If this seems a tad early to you, you're not alone. Though Watch Dogs has quite a lot of hype behind it and has released altogether too many trailers, we're not even certain whether or not we like the characters and universe we're supposed to be excited about seeing adapted.

The people involved seem excited, at least, with Hannah Mingella, president of Production for Columbia Pictures, saying:

"The game has intense action and adventure, but the story focuses on information and the control of information, which we think will lead to an exciting thriller.  It has tremendous potential as a motion picture and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to work closely with Ubisoft's internal creative team on the development of the project."

On the glass-half-full side of things, techno-centric action thrillers can be entertaining when one gets past the Hollywood hacking gibberish, and Watch Dogs as a game is certainly grooming itself to have the words "cinematic" or "Hollywood" appear somewhere on the box.

We'll hopefully know more about the film within the next year, and we'll know more about the game once it releases this fall. For now, enjoy the new trailer.

I expect the game to be a huge success but I expect the movie to be delayed continously and ultimately never released.

shouldn't they actually release the game before announcing anything, to make sure IF (and its a big if) it will be a success. your right though iv seen too much of this game. the first trailer i saw was cool, but the more i see the less excited i get.

My prediction is its going to be a heavy rain, some good parts, mixed with good and bad voice acting, lots of people who love its with a lot that will hate it, all mixed in together with some cheese
