November 15th is now set to be a very big day for the video game industry: after much anticipation and speculation, Sony announced at Gamescom today that November 15th will be the day that the Playstation 4 releases in North America. Europeans will have their shot at the console not too much later on November 29th.

The Xbox One's specific release date is currently unknown, though it is also set to release this November, continuing this generation's already contentious rivalry between the two consoles. Though the Xbox One was originally going to release in 21 countries, that number has now shrunk to 13. This gives Sony a bit of an edge in Europe, as the eight European countries without November launches will have to wait until 2014 in order to get their hands on the Xbox One. This timeframe could hurt the console, but it should be remembered that in the previous generation, the Playstation 3 released a full year behind the Xbox 360 and has bounced back just fine.

The announcement of the Playstation 4's release dates comes amidst a flurry of news from the conference, including price cuts for the Playstation Vita and its accessories, as well as Minecraft as a launch day release for the new console.

W00t great news for me since a try PS4 will most likely be the first console I buy next gen unless the Wii U drops it's price.

I'll probably wait a bit before jumping into the next generation of consoles, something GTA V will definitely cover. Anyways, I am looking forward to the day I buy one.

Earlier than I expected, which is good news for me since I'm planning on getting one at launch.
