If you play video games often enough to be a reader of 4Player Podcast, there is a very high chance you have heard the voice of Nolan North before. The man behind Nathan Drake, Desmond Miles, The Penguin, Captain Martin Walker, and most recently a chilling performance in The Last of Us is rightfully referred to as Mr. Video Game Voiceover by some, and a report from Gamezone.com has confirmed that he will be one of the available options for player voice in the upcoming Saints Row IV.

For the uninitiated, Saints Row 2 and Saints Row The Third have allowed the player to choose their character's voice in character customization, allowing them to mouth off as everything from a garbled zombie to a Russian woman to Snow. It is only natural, then, that one of the most prolific actors in video gaming would also be given a shot at the foul-mouthed, fun-loving leader of the Saints (and, as of Saints Row IV, the free world).

The game has already taken a few shots at parodying video games in general- with the presence of actor Keith David and certain achievements indicating a few Mass Effect gags in particular- including the actor who seems to be all over the place almost comes off as another cheeky jab at the industry. As a fan of North's work (and a student at his alma mater!), I must say that if it is a jab, it is quite welcome.

Saints Row IV releases in North America on August 20th for the PC, PS3, and 360.

This man could voice a doughnut and I'd still love him.

Don't think I'm the only one sick of hearing his voice, right? It made me hate playing a human in Guild Wars 2... It broke some of the magic when I'm thinking of Nathan Drake while playing Spec Ops: The Line. And anytime he pops up as a side character it just makes me face palm. I would say "that's happen with every popular voice actor" but I think he in particular just doesn't do anything very different when it comes to his different roles. I guess that's the voice acting business though, and a personal thing for me. I'll just have to wait it out.

Nolan North is the Samuel L. Jackson of video games. He's in everything.
