At Ubisoft's big E3 presser, they introduced The Crew, a massively multiplayer car game in which players can race, take down targets such as armored trucks, escape from the police, and more. There is a larger objective of taking over a criminal organization "one city a time," but so far that only seems to add up to there being multiple open world levels.
The trailer is pretty slick, and was accompanied by a live playthrough of the game between four players demonstrating the game's ability to team up for multiplayer missions on-the-fly in a consistent world, with four players engaging in a takedown mission and bringing down an armored truck in what was actually a pretty fun-looking demo. It was stated that the game can be played solo, but as of right now, it is uncertain whether or not that means that the game can be played offline. Ubisoft has been reached for comment and this story will be updated if they respond.
UPDATE: A Kotaku report confirms that "in no uncertain terms," The Crew is always-online.
For now, enjoy the CG trailer for The Crew, which will release for Xbox One and Playstation 4 in 2014.

This looks awesome and I am a fan of racing games that are less realistic and more just about having gameplay.
