I don't know why, but at Ubisoft's E3 press conference today, they decided to air two different Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag trailers in a row. Lucky us, though, as it certainly doesn't hurt to have a bit more Assassin's Creed to go around.

The first trailer is all CG and shows protagonist Edward Kenway doing his piratey thing, starting barfights and escaping from the law and generally snubbing his nose at The Man. I admit to being a bit disappointed in this trailer because most of the Assassin's Creed trailers tend to introduce some new weapon or concept. AC2 featured Ezio using a pistol, Brotherhood had him leading Assassins into battle, AC3 introduced the new setting, the use of trees, some new weaponry, and more.

Here? We've seen (and done) naval combat before. I suppose having two pistols instead of one is new. But perhaps I'm cynical, so give the trailer a look for yourself.

After showing that trailer, Ubisoft spoke of how they wanted to capture the full experience of living life as a pirate, and didn't want to focus exclusively on "swashbuckling violence" and the kind of things you see in film. As the CG trailer seemed to be all about swashbuckling violence and cinematic piracy, they then showed this second trailer, which is significantly moodier.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is set to release October 29th in America, October 31st in Australia, and November 1st in Europe for the PS3, 360, Wii U, and PC. It will be available for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One at an as of yet unknown time.

It looks like AC, so I'll not pick it up. I don't like the AC formula.

Interesting displaying two contrasting trailers but I would have preferred one of them to show some gameplay.
