For those of us who love the fighting game series which can rightfuly claim to be the most heavy metal fighter there is, Arc System Works has released very good news: after nine years without a proper console release in the Guilty Gear franchise, the series is back.

Arc System Works, also known for the BlazBlue series of games, held a festival in honor of their 25th anniversary, and Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- was announced with a trailer to commemorate the occasion. Featuring a duel between the series leads Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske, it reveals to very important new things to longtime Guilty Gear fans: first, the characters are no longer sprites but instead highly stylized character models made to look indistinguishable from the hand-drawn 2D artwork that had a hand in making the series iconic. Second: it is a true, honest-to-God Guilty Gear game, directed by Daisuke Ishiwatari, the series' creator, character designer, and composer.

Guilty Gear games have always contained an off-the-wall roster of characters, so time will tell who will be announced to feature in the future, but on top of Sol and Ky, Millia Rage makes an appearance and Eddie makes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in her gaze.

As a Guilty Gear fan, I cannot word how excited this announcement makes me. Give the trailer a spin below.

I was pleased then saw a Seananners video at the end and really lost my buzz. Nothing kills a good time like youtube.

I can't wait for this. Had some amazing matches with my brother back on X-2. I like the characters a lot more than any I've played with in Blaz Blue also. Should be great~

I was skeptical about there no longer being sprite based art but it's actually hard to tell the difference. I was definitely impressed.
