In a conversation with Eurogamer, employees at CDProjekt RED confirmed that their upcoming finale to The Witcher series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will not feature multiplayer components of any kind. Speaking on the matter, Michal Platkow-Gilewski, head of marketing, said:

"There's no place for multiplayer in so strongly a story-driven game as The Witcher 3. We want to focus on the single-player experience, delivering more than 100 hours of truly immersive gameplay."

When asked if there was the possibility of an MMO based on the franchise, studio manager Adam Badowski responded by "laughing at the notion of 10 white-haired Geralts running around."

Finally, proving the notion that this is a company we can all love, project lead Konrad Tomaszkiewicz confirmed that Wild Hunt will continue their anti-DRM tradition and called it "the worst thing in the gaming industry."

I like the cut of their jib.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is expected to release in 2014 for the PC and all next-gen consoles except for that one Nintendo made.

I am happy with this, not all games need multiplayer, especially huge immersive RPG's. CDProject RED is fast becoming my favorite developer as they seem to concentrate on more important aspects than forcing in an unnecessary game mode in a game that doesn't need it.

If a counter argument of "longevity" comes into question - it has also been quoted the game may feature up to "100 hours" of questing (~50 main/~50 Side quests). Unfortunately I don't think the game has the capacity for random quest generation like Skyrim (e.g. All of the quest will likely be scripted and scattered at various locations) but 100 hours of content with multiple endings and choices to make sure doesn't sound like anything to scoff at. I think similar to Skyrim's quest generation it wouldn't be too far fetched to imagine random quests involving monster hunts or running thieves out of an area being common Witcher work thus making the game as long lasting an experience.

The Witcher 3 is by far my most anticipated title alongside Cyberpunk. CDProjekt RED is awesome. I'm a huge fan of GOG.com and I can't wait for their Spring quarterly report (which should be the end of next month).

Based CDprojekt. Good on them for not bothering with multiplayer put in there just for the sake of having it - I don't get people's complaints about it in games that focus so much on the singleplayer, it isn't always conducive to a game experience.
