According to Nintendo's Financial Results Briefing, they have "decided not to host a large-scale presentation" at this year's E3, instead "planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market."

Citing the fact that "video game fans are looking for information about games" than sales figures, Nintendo's now-CEO Satoru Iwata stated that Nintendo will have a presence at E3, including "one closed event for American distributors" and a hands-on event "for mainly the Western gaming media." They have not at all given up on E3 and this may not necessarily be a sign of doom and gloom for the company, even stating earlier in the presentation that they they will be giving information on titles for the rest of this year and early next year at the show.

This isn't a bad move. Nintendo Direct appears to be reaching its audience similar to how E3 would, and while Nintendo's conferences can be entertaining, it's been too easy for them to be drowned out by the bombastic nature of Sony and Microsoft's competing conferences. Choosing to instead show off some software so the press can play it and keep announcements on turf they control could actually prove to be a wise decision.

Soon enough, we'll be able to see whether or not the decision pays off at this year's E3.

Probably a better decision for them. Maybe they're still waiting for some console-pushing games?

Thats a bummer. Nintendo has always been super accommodating to smaller outlets when it comes to giving access to conferences. Hopefully they will carry on that tradition with these "smaller" events at E3 this year. Sony and Microsoft will talk a big game this year but I still hope that we can bring some interesting Nintendo coverage from the event.

E3 is becoming a bit of a letdown lately, especially now that the big three are holding their own separate conferences. Hopefully Sony and Microsoft will reveal all they have at E3, otherwise why bother?

Surprisingly good move from Nintendo IMO.

Would of been a good chance to finally get people excited about the WiiU. Im just waiting for them to pull a Sega at this point so I can finally play the few good Nintendo games without having to buy a system for it.
