Not everyone was happy when Overstrike was renamed Fuse and Insomniac Games made some significant stylistic changes to its visual design. However, here is some information about the game that I think most people will be glad to hear: it won't feature an online pass or microtransactions.
In an FAQ posted on the Insomniac Games website, the developer revealed that the game, which will be published by EA, will be free of online passes, and "there are no microtransactions to make up for it". The developer also explained that the game will include split-screen multiplayer, which is good news for weird people like me who might actually want to play the multiplayer with other people who are in the same room as them. The game will apparently be "a true, fun challenge", and a demo will be released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 "closer to release".
Fuse is exactly the kind of game I would want to rent before I would consider purchasing it, so the absence of an online pass is good news as far as I'm concerned. I'm no fan of online passes, and I've always felt that holding the best features of a game to ransom when on-the-fence customers might want to try before they buy is a hostile and counter-intuitive move from publishers. Fuse doesn't look like it will light the world on fire, but good on Insomniac Games for rejecting the increasingly ubiquitous online pass. If nothing else, I'll give the demo a spin.
Fuse is set for a May 28th release date.

I find it almost shocking that there is no online pass. Has EA finally changed their ways?

I'm not really inclined to believe that there really was a "stylistic change" because 1 it was a CGI trailer with no actual gameplay footage and 2 most if not all CGI trailers are made by a third party company. Remember the first Dead Island trailer? Yea! Not representative of the game at all. Developers don't usually direct how trailers look (if they did those Gamespot adds promoting games would not be utter garbage) because their busyness is making a game not marketing it (thats what a publisher is for). When Ted Price said, "The trailer was a misrepresentation of what the game was going to be" I'm inclined to believe him due to the previous reasons and because he is a man with a lot of integrity in my opinion (seeing as he fully admits that they messed up with Resistance 2).
But that is besides the point. Good to see split-screen is not gone forever and that online passes are a non issue here.
