CDProjekt Red, the minds behind the brilliantly delivered "Witcher" series has taken to the net to unveil their next major project to the world. Cyberpunk 2077, loosely based on the old pen-and-paper RPG of the same name (minus the 2077), seems poised to continue the developer's knack for story maturity and character developent within an intense, futuristic landscape.

The trailer above is entirely CG but CD Projekt promises that more information will be unveiled sometime in February. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this game make an appearance at PAX East in March as well. Im still crossing my fingers for a worldwide day-1 launch across PC and console platforms alike; especially following the success of the Witcher 2 port that was released in 2012.

There isn't much to say yet but I cannot wait to get a better look at the pacing of the game's story and combat mechanics. The trailer suggests the team is focused on deliver a quality product when "it is ready." Hype sucks but given their pedigree, I think I can wait.

A snippet from a newsletter sent out by CD Projekt Red paints a vivid picture of the world of Cyberpunk 2077:

In Cyberpunk 2077, the player will be thrown into a dark future. The metropolis of Night City is a stage set to tell the tale of one individual, raised on the streets, who tries to lift himself up from the gutter and find a way to survive amongst boostergangs and megacorporations in a city of filth and sin. Drugs, violence, poverty and exclusion haven’t disappeared by 2077, as people stayed as they were for centuries – greedy, closed-minded and weak. But not only ghosts of the past trouble mankind, but new issues have appeared. Psychos go on rampages and the streets are filled with junkies addicted to a new form of entertainment – the braindance, a cheap way to experience the emotions and stimuli of someone else, someone living a more exciting life.

Hate to say that the Snippet in that newsletter makes it sound like the plot was writen by a middle schooler. Still interested in the game though, maybe not for the story though.

From the secret message (note - not the full message) for those of us that can't read the red text:

So, you want to know what kind of game Cyberpunk 2077 will be? The short description is that it will be a story-heavy, nonlinear, open world RPG based on teh well known Cyberpunk pen & paper system and setting. Building open world games is osmething we are mastering right now, and we believe that properly joining nonlinear gameplay with excellent story telling will bring a totally new quality. Hmm. We’ll tell some more about it soon!

And that’s not all that’s new. We are about to reveal our other project, which is much closer to being completed. And yes, it will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story. You can probably guess the game we’re talking about. ;-) On the 5th of February it will all be clear.

So stay tuned, as we will have quite a lot to show and tell you soon!

We are waiting for you on our newly created forum called Afterlife—what other name could we have chosen for it? :)

    CD Projekt RED Team

CD Project Red is hiring in force, they continually advertise at their quarterly company updates looking to bring talent to their team in Poland. I think the expansion of the team makes the possibility to this game (coming out probably sometime in 2015ish) releasing on console and PC a likely possibility. However, they hinted at The Witcher 3 being revealed and due for release earlier than Cyberpunk... I don't think we'll see a simultaneous release cross-platform for The Witcher 3, the team just isn't large enough yet to be multitasking like that. Just speculation, but who knows - maybe (hopefully) I'm wrong on that account and everyone can enjoy more fantastic RPGs from this powerhouse team.

The CG was done well, but that's to be expected as it is made by a third party company that does this for a living, however I must say it was quite boring.

A really long drawn out slowmo scene and then it just ends? It reminds me of superman movies, but in this case there was no action scene at all after you see the bullets bounce off the person.

The music was also pretty terrible, the trailer can be improved by listening to something from ghost in a shell instead.

I guess this will be released on PC first, then come to Microsofts next-gen, but it's hard to say anything yet. Anyway, I need to buy me a PC just in case because I bet it won't play on my Mac.

I liked the trailer, but not as good as the latest The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct trailer though.
