Videogames seem to have a bit of a thing against George Washington lately. First, Bioshock Infinite re-imagines him as a mini-gun wielding psychotic robot. Now Assassin's Creed 3 is going the whole hog and characterising him as a malevolent dictator, as part of an upcoming DLC package.
Titled "The Tyranny of King Washington", the DLC is a 'what if?' scenario where Assassin's Creed 3's protagonist, Connor, wakes up from a dream to discover that an evil George Washington has claimed the throne. The DLC will comprise of 3 episodes, and Ubisoft has announced that the first episode, titled "The Infamy", will be released on February 19th for the Xbox 360 and PC, and February 20th for PS3. The episode will be priced at 800 Microsoft Points, and included in the Assassin's Creed 3 Season Pass. There is currently no word on a Wii U release date.
The Assassin's Creed series has always trod a line between historical accuracy and Sci-Fi extravagance, but with this DLC I get the feeling that the game devs got fed up of figuring out how events like the signing of the Declaration of Independence could fit into their story of a time-travelling bartender trying to stop the apocalypse and thought, "Sod it, let's have some fun and pretend George Washington was a power-hungry evil bastard". I didn't enjoy Assassin's Creed 3 enough to realistically see myself returning to it for extra content, but I'll be interested to see how other people respond to the three episodes. Check out the trailer for the DLC below.

Washington may fit the political tyrant archetype for this, but Ben Franklin would have made an excellent evil Scientist/Inventor.

I should probably get back to finishing AC3 before even considering playing this DLC..
