Yakuza 5 is out in Japan next week and, as a result, gameplay videos of the Japanese demo have been hitting the web. I must shamefully admit to having an unfinished save from the very first game sitting on a PS2 memory card somewhere. That's the farthest I've gotten with any game in the series, but I can't help but be motivated to jump back in whenever I catch a glimpse of a new Yakuza game.
Yakuza 5 is supposedly a big overhaul for the series; a bigger and better story, seemless flow in and out of battle, and a brand new game engine. Some of those things might be evident in the videos that have been popping up, but one thing is for sure, it looks like wrecking dude's faces in a myriad of ways is still a critical component. I'd be lying if I didn't say that everything you'll ever need to know about street fights can be learned from a Yakuza game. I'm telln' you, guys. When in danger, keep a cool head, grab the nearest oversized mortar tube, and just shoot fireworks at the aggressor. Simple as that.
Yakuza 5 doesn't have a North American release date, yet, but hopefully its unique brand of beat-em-up will make its return to the west sometime next year.
