The first scraps of information regarding Bungie's new IP 'Destiny' are officially out in the wild, as of yesterday. Ahead of schedule, too. Well, Bungie's schedule, that is. I can't imagine anyone being upset about learning even the slightest bit of info about whatever the famed 'Halo' developers are currently working on. They did re-define console shooters, didn't they? At this point, any hope of that happening again is sweet music to my ears.

The story details and concept art hit the web by way of a leaked press release. The document was prepared by a third-party ad agency and as a result, is kind of vague. What we do know now is that 'Destiny' takes place in a sci-fi setting, there's definitely aliens, and a large ominous ship known as "The Traveler" seems to be a big part of the narrative.

Here's the plot summary pulled from the document.

"Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it."

The concept art features a big sweeping war-torn setting, a lot of focus on this "Traveler" thing, and some badass dudes in sweet armor. Oh, and I think I see... yeah, that's a bubble shield. Bubble shields in 'Destiny'...confirmed?

In a classy response to the leak, Bungie confirmed the legitimacy of the document, posted an official screenshot and said, in so many words, that we ain't seen nothin' yet.

Full sized version of the concept art is below.

the aesthetics remind me of a steampunk killzone...and with that I am intrigued. On a concept level of course, I hope we see some good stuff from Bungie, Halo is an... alright game and all but I'd like to see them try something outside of the fps genre.
but iunno, we see soldiers and guns and giant ships, hope it's not just gonna be a gray halo.

I have to admit. After having my doubts about Bungie doing yet another sci-fi game...I am pleased.

That description sounds a lot like Halo 2.0 to me. Humans vs. aliens FPS.
