Building in a cube world is nothing new at this point, and the idea of being given tools within a 'game' and let loose to discover what they do is, again, nothing new. But a new indie game Blocksworld, which saw a release on November 20th in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway, is taking things a step further, and according to developer Boldai AB if it all goes well we could see a world wide release.
Why am I writing about this relatively unknown thing? That's exactly the reason why. It's getting little to no recognition anywhere, and if you watch the 'Honest Trailer' above you'll notice that it looks so gosh darn charming. My eyes have squirted out my head because of it.
It might have that simplistic look about it but I can guarantee that once the public gets their filthy and wonderful claws inside it, all chaos will be unleashed. Like a block Gates of Hell. Can we see that get made?
I'm always enamoured by these types of releases, and mostly because the community becomes the true soul of the game. Like LittleBigPlanet - but mainly the sequel - it wasn't uncommon to see all the features spun around, flipped upside and dunked in a bath of acid. Players constantly releasing mutated blobs of rad and turning a platformer into a sidescroller, or fighting blocks of sentient foam, is something I just cheer on. Or, as much as I don't enjoy Minecraft, wandering in on my siblings and seeing their session of nearly four hours has lead to a recreation of a castle from her mind.
As corny as it sounds, the fact there are no limits to what could be done in this only means that once it's out there, it's only a matter of time before a small library of different games or play-things is upon us. Like a public version of WarioWare.
Heading to their Youtube page, also revealed they are working on other platforms, but the small size of the team is restricting them to focus on one platform at one time. So yes, iOS comes first and once that's done they'll be polishing up the Android version they have going at the moment and PC/Mac ports should follow.
Go watch the trailer and give them a little love, I'm going to try find my eyes.

I don't think I'll ever play this game, but that trailer was great.
