If your fondest FPS multiplayer memories are not of airstriking soldiers in bombed-out urban wastelands, but of burning giant gingerbread men with flamethrowers in Chinese restaurants, then you're probably a fan of Free Radical Design's 2002 FPS classic, TimeSplitters 2. Well, it turns out that an HD version of the game was being worked on before Free Radical Design went into administration and became Crytek UK. Speaking to Not Enough Shaders, Steve Ellis, the former founder of Free Radical Design, said:
We had a “HD” downloadable version of TimeSplitters 2 in development at Free Radical in 2008. I don’t know what happened to that but yes, I’d love to see it released at some point. Maybe it could be the catalyst that is required in order to raise enough interest in TimeSplitters 4 that a publisher might want to fund it.
While it's tempting to say that I'm also eager to see an HD release of TimeSplitters 2, I can still remember the HD release of Perfect Dark, another old FPS classic, which wasn't entirely successful. HD releases of old games are often a mixed bag, and can throw some the game's flaws and dated design into sharp relief. For instance, while it was great to play Perfect Dark's multiplayer without the N64 version's frame rate issues, it was also a shock to find how bad the level design was by modern standards.
Maybe TimeSplitters 2 can stand the test of time, and a drive to create interest in TimeSplitters 4 would hardly be a bad thing. I'm just wary that my memories of the game might be greater than the game itself as it stands today.

I just got back into playing Timesplitters multiplayer with mine own brother the other day. Shit's so damn fantastic.
Also there's the Human Gun Sounds cheat. Best shit ever.

Free Radical shutting down is the wound that never stops being salted.

Timesplitters 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, so the fact that they were working on an HD remake is cool. Of course, the latter part of my previous sentence being in the past tense is not cool. I miss Timesplitters :(

Time Splitters 2 and Future perfect were soooo fucking awesome. I'd pick up an HD port of either day one.
