As I stated in the headline, I rarely buy into DLC. This is not a reflection of my opinion of the material or a condemnation of the practice but instead a direct result of playing so many games for the sake of this website. So when a piece of DLC catches my attention and pries the money from my tattered wallet, I consider it worth promoting.

Dishonored is barely out of the gate and is still fostering plenty of buzz and interesting discussion. For those of us who played the game and fell in love, additional content is terrific news. Bethesda has announced the details regarding their first three planned DLC releases that are planned to launch between now and mid 2013:

Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials, being released in December for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points), will include 10 challenge maps that will test and track your combat, stealth and mobility skills. Ten distinct trials await challengers - including an arena battle against waves of enemy AI, a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations, and a race against the clock. Dunwall City Trials also features a whole new set of achievements and trophies as well as a global online leaderboard that will establish the greatest assassins for each challenge.

The second and third add-ons for Dishonored will be coming in 2013 and will each feature story-driven campaigns. Pricing on these two packs will be revealed closer to launch.

Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural assassins known as ‘The Whalers’, will be the focus of the second add-on pack, scheduled for release in early Spring 2013. Make your way through new Dunwall locales and discover Daud’s own set of weapons, powers and gadgets in this story-driven campaign. How you play and the choices you make will impact the final outcome…

Praise jesus! Both of these plans to extend the Dishonored experience sound worthy of my time and money. The sandbox that Arkane developed for the standalone release is already among the best in the business (in my opinion) so giving me challenges set within this sandbox sounds like an awesome addition. Of course, I am also invested in the universe (probably more so than the main story) so I applaud them for introducing a new character and story to play through. Give me more powers! More targets! More environments! Hell! Let me kill that asshole in the void (or whatever its called).

The Dunwall City Trials DLC will launch in December 2012 for $4.99 or 400 Microsoft points. The other two, as-of-yet untitled, story driven DLC packs will be released in 2013. Titles and prices have not yet been announced but I suspect they will both be priced $10 - $15.

With the future of Dishonored as a series in question, I am itching to experience more before Arkane closes the book on the universe. I hope the DLC introduces other elements of the universe that were hinted at but never fully explored in the retail release. The whaling industry comes to mind especially. What would you like to see from these future DLC add ons?

Yeeesss... Planning on to play it the third time and can't just get enough of the world, the way it's constructed seems like it was planned for something more.

The future DLC... Well I would personally want more of an insight in to the Outsider, like you doing some eliminating for him as he graves for some chaos. I'd want to see the civilization Outsider was talking about, the one which carved all of the whale bone runes an' such, but surely that would be in a prequel of sorts.

And Nick, I don't think you can just go on ahead and kill the power which gave you your powers and as far I know is pretty much a god who has been bored for a long time and is playing with humanity, once more.
