At yesterday's Nindendo Wii U conference, the U.S. launch price for Nintendo's new console was revealed to be $299.99 for the basic package, and $349.99 for the deluxe version. That roughly equates to £187 and £217 respectively. Now, U.K. retailers have started to announce their planned launch prices for when the console hits our merry land of tea and cricket on the 30th November. Do the figures line up?
Nope. Not by a long shot.
Anyone buying a Wii U from Amazon.co.uk, HMV or Sainsbury's can expect to pay £249.99 for the basic bundle and £299.99 for the premium bundle. GAME will be squeezing a little extra out of you, charging £259.99 for the basic bundle and £309.99 for the premium bundle. A premium bundle with ZombiU thrown in will also be available, but I would buy from Sainsbury's if you fancy it, since they will be selling it for £329.99, while GAME will charge £349.99.
To quote Wallace from the Wallace and Gromit short film The Wrong Trousers: "Oh, that's a bit steep! I'll have to let that room out!" Maybe Bayonetta 2 isn't such a strong draw for me to buy the console after all. Unless...y'know...someone wants to just give me money? Please? Don't make me sell my kidney!

So... let me make sure I have a complete understanding of this:
The Wii U is sort of a mobile gaming device but you have to be near the Wii which is tethered to the TV so it's really more of a controller but not exactly because it's got all this extra shit on it (like a touch screen) which really just makes it an elaborate controller but they're calling it "next gen" and they're going to charge $150 a pop for them - $300 for a bundle.
Is anyone else's butthole sore now?

Nice try Nintendo. Bayonetta and Mario isn't worth that much. Especially when we have true next gen consoles right around the corner.

Woah there that £299.99 for the deluxe one equates to $486.67. That's almost $500, which is an awfully similar to the launch price of the PS3.

Wonder how heavily shafted the rest of Europe will get. Really looking forward to that 300€+ price point for the base model., along with half-baked bullshit about currency fluctuations, distribution costs, taxes and market conditions.
