Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the mastermind behind rhythm-shooter classic Rez and its spiritual sequel Child of Eden, is moving away from game production and will act as "more of a spokesperson", according to Q Entertainment director Nobuhiko Shimizu. Talking to Eurogamer today, Shimuzu explained that Mizuguchi is "not developing stuff right now," and he is going to focus on academic work while remaining at Q Entertainment.
Rez is one of my all-time favourite games, and I'm also a big fan of Child of Eden and Genki Rockets, the J-pop band Mizuguchi co-produced, so it's a little sad to hear that he's taking a back seat for the time being. Go and download Rez HD if you haven't tried it. It's a marvellous, hypnotic exploration into interactive synaesthesia, melding Wassily Kandinsky-esque abstract imagery with a shifting trance soundtrack. Check out Child of Eden and Lumines, they are cool, too. Hopefully Mizuguchi will return to videogame production at some point.

Damn it, Rez is a game I have very fond memories of and even though I didn't enjoy child of eden much I still had a lot of fun playing it. Well the only thing I can hope for is a sudden return to gaming down the line with a brand new unique game coming out.
