After nearly a year of hearing Hitman fans complain about the direction of IO Interactive's Hitman Absolution, it is finally time for words to be eaten (or at least small amounts of optimism to be shown).
The biggest complaint thus far (a sentiment that is shared by our very own Brad Simons) has been the complete lack of open environments and gameplay that encourages experimentation that made the earlier entries in the series so popular. With E3 a few days away, it appears that IO Interactive has begun to unveil some of the gameplay that will be shown at the event. The demo (above) appears to show off a lot of the open-ended gameplay that series veterans have been craving since the game was first shown. The darker tone to the series is certainly still present (something I am actually in favor of) but the wackiness and charm that fans expect is certainly still there.
We have an appointment to play the game on Tuesday so be sure to tune in next week and subscribe on iTunes to hear our full, hands-on impressions as they are made available!

Finally a gameplay demonstration that actually looks like fucking HITMAN.
Now that it seems we're actually getting a hitman game I gotta say I'm quite a bit more excited for it. only nitpicky thing was that the guy talking called him "hitman" instead of agent 47 =/

Dishonoured Gameplay.
By the way, the writing spots were all taken here right?

I can thankfully breath a sigh of relief to see that IO has not forgotten its loyal fans to the series I just hope there is enough stealth type gameplay in the final product. My fingers are crossed.

It still seems so shallow. Not at all like anything from Blood Money.

Why wasn't THIS the first footage show.

This wont quell all fears and apprehension directed at this game, but it is a very firm step forward in the right direction.
Still, there are some things left to be desired. The musical queues are a departure that I'm not quite found of, and the atmosphere feels like it's being forced to be gritty rather than organically being so. It's an issue that plagued Deus Ex:HR as well, but it can be overlooked in the long haul, as Hitman generally has diverse locales and set pieces.

Ppl who love hitman will immediately turn off that stupid "sense" ability that lets u see through walls, what u can interact with at key points, and where the AI will go. I feel like the sense ability is just for those who never really got into hitman and didnt like using the map to plan things out

Much better.

On the bright side, this game may turn out to be a great Hitman sequel after all. But sadly, it might also cost me sixty dollars.

Now that looks like a hitman game I was hoping for.

This is looking good. I don't know how well I'll be able to work around these open levels without a map though. Everything looks the same. Damn why can't my Hitman have funky vision & a map like Assassin's Creed. (They made the comparison themselves). Sure Assassin's Creed didn't have a real time map, but it had one & it was great. I just like good maps. It seems they're getting replaced by dogs (Fable), floaty glowy magic balls (Prince of Persia), magic lines (Army of Two & Dead Space) & other silly crap. Maps are one aspect of "realism" I actually like & approve of in video games. Plus they have better map tech now than ever before, why abandon them?! :( Le sigh. I wouldn't mind a magic line instead of a mini-map (futuristic hologram GPS anyone?), but I still want a proper full size feature packed map I can whip out when I need it.

I cannot wait for this game, this is a first day buy for me. This video pretty much confirms that this game is still a hitman game.
