The "Big 3" have wrapped up their "conferences" at this year's E3, and to no one's surprise, we got what we expected...or at least should have. It's obvious that the current generation of consoles will be milked for every drop they can give these fine people, leaving a heavy-vibe of desire in the air now that the festivities are over. A desire for excitement, less guns, and new IPs.
Microsoft has nothing outside of SmartGlass and Kinect crap. Sure, their flagship games are alive but I don't care anymore. Luckily, I care more about what Sony had to show...but Beyond and The Last of Us aren't enough. I dreamt of The Last Guardian making a surprise appearance, unfortunately it was just a dream.
Nintendo had me on their side in a big way prior to their thing this morning, but aside from Mario I can't remember what else they showed. Worst even is we still don't know shit about what this Wii U really is! They're showing Wiimotes, Promotes, and whatever the hell...and I'm left not sure if this is a peripheral update or what.
One thing is for sure, this year's Big 3 conferences are proof that a next-gen is coming soon. The mood has been set by trilogies and extensions of trilogies with nothing to show for refreshing intellectual properties outside of a handful of titles shown. And who's to say that we actually see every game of that handful, in a market struggling to make ends meet between development and returns. Just saying.
Expecting the unexpected doesn't always pay off. I'm not disappointed with the showing this E3, more like underwhelmed. And while there are dozens of great looking games heading our way, I'm beginning to feel the need for new. The kind of "new" I'm not convinced we'll be getting from Nintendo and its Wii U.

im more interested in the next e3....we know what MS and Sony ae gonna show, but man what is nintendo gonna do when the other consoles come out....they will need to rally all the support they can muster from 3rd party devs. I mean i wanna know internet infrastructure, downloadables (will indies have a place there(unlikely seeing as how they turned down binding of issac)) pricing is especially important...the fact nintendo doesn't want to reveal that yet is BS since it comes out this fall? I mean they will need devs like rockstar, bethesda, gearbox, valve, etc to start putting games out for wii-u as well...otherwise nintendo will have a pretty shaky showing in next e3...i predict games and maybe a new handheld for them in 2013

WiiU could be the next big thing in gaming if the 3rd party support ramps up. It's the same reason a PS3 is a better deal than a Xbox 360, at this point. There is just more exclusive titles.
I am sold on the WiiU gamepad with inventory management alone. I know it can be used for more, but it's the most practical, gameplay impact full, easy to see use I can think of. In AC2 Revelations I would use poison darts just because I needed them seconds ago, as where the crossbow would've been best in said situation. Limiting menu browsing and the break in gameplay is causes, is very gameplay impact full.
There is more that could use the gamepad. Off the top of my head; drawing based puzzle games, any voice command games, any game that makes use of a mini map, waypoints on said maps, and so on. All very practical ways to immerse the player.
While cool ideas, I can't play ideas. I will also wait and see.

Microsoft was disappointing as usual, honestly there are no surprises there.
Sony did not have much either but I am really excited for The Last Of Us and Beyond.
Nintendo had very little to surprise me although I am interested in seeing more of Zombie U and Rayman Legends
Overall not much to see here but Watch Dogs looks like something I will look forward to, as long as I see more varied gameplay
