Naughty Dog has just released a new Cinematic trailer for their post-apocalyptic survival game The Last of Us. The game is set in the remnants of a world overcome by the outbreak of a viral "fungus" that has turned humans into bloodthirsty monsters. Military controlled quarantine zones are the only places people can safely call home. The game's protagonist, Joel, is a smuggler tasked with escorting the young Ellie out of the quarantine zone in Pittsburgh. Together they face the aftermath of the outbreak. Encountering creatures the virus has left behind as well as the scavengers who are willing to rob and murder those who stray too far into the city.

Since it is a cinematic trailer there is no gameplay, but it does set the scene for the scavenger encounter described in Gameinformers March cover story.

gameplay or no, I believe they've said this is how it'll look in game, as the first trailer was.
I gotta say I'm both excited and a little worried, excited for the concept, worried that they'll be brave enough to keep it grounded (like I am alive or something) instead of appealing to their uncharted fanbase and going for a more actiony experience.

Alright, no gameplay. As far as the writing and characters go, it's nice to see the kid actually acting human, unlike in a fair amount of media where the 10-year-olds usually act more like 5. The fact that you're playing a smuggler for hire as opposed to her dad, like I thought at first, is interesting in its own right - somehow makes the story seem a little less bleak.

This isn't a CG trailer, it's a cutscene from the game running on the in-game engine. This same scene was previewed for Game Informer for their cover story of the game in the March issue and recently previewed for Destructoid.

Not to sound like a douche, but it would be cool if you could edit your article, so people don't mistake this for just a blatant CGI trailer made to show nothing. This video is part of the game, after all.

Anyway, game looks much more awesome, wish I had a PS3, but still super hyped about it. Can't wait for it to come out.
