If you think real hard, you may remember a little game called Resident Evil that revolutionized the survival horror genre when it hit the original Playstation back in 1996. It was a game that set the bar for horror experiences going forward and will always be looked back on fondly by the gaming populace... even if it did have terrible voice acting.
Thanks to his work on the original Resident Evil (and the Resident Evil Remake), Resident Evil 4, and the original Dino Crisis, Shinji Mikami has become a household name among gaming enthusiasts. Mikami's more recent credits involved working with major Japanese studios such as Platinum Games and Grasshopper Manufacture on games like Vanquish and Shadows of the Damned. With the beloved survival-horror genre slowly bleeding into the character action genre, it should be a welcomed surprise to hear that Mikami is returning to the horror genre with the help of his new studio, Tango Gameworks and the publishing strong-arm of Bethesda Softworks.
After revealing that his new studio had been formed and bought by Bethesda in 2010, any news involving the studio and its projects went dark. Mikami/Bethesda pulled back the curtain this week and officially announced that Tango Gameworks is hard at work on a fresh new game in the survival-horror genre, codenamed "Project Zwei." While the game is still early in development and not due for release until 2013 at the earliest, Mikami was able to issue the following statement about the project:
“A true ‘survival horror’ game is one in which the player confronts and overcomes fear,” says Shinji Mikami, president and creative director for Tango Gameworks. “I've found my focus and once again I'm striving for pure survival horror. I am being very hands-on in the development of this game to ensure that the quality is there. Rest assured.”
The PR email also included a collage of environmental concept art to give fans a taste of the games tone. Take a look below and relish in Mikami's triumphant return to horror because this artwork is enough to get the hype train rolling.
If you have any predictions or observations about Mikami and his distinct style of horror, tell us about it in the comments!

I'd be very curious to know what perspective this game is going to employ. Based on those environments I almost reckon it might be First Person, but perhaps it could also feature environments like those featured here in a most distanced or abstract way in a side scrolling format, reminiscent of Abe's Odysee or that side-scrolling post-apocalypse themed metroid-vania style game coming out soon, the name of which totally escapes me right now, embarrassingly.
In any case with how lush it is already, I'd anticipate the final product to really implicate some gorgeous visuals.

Mikami has yet to make a game I didn't enjoy in some aspect. I'm pretty stoked to see what comes out of this project.

I'm not a big fan of the survival horror genre as a whole, but I hope this project ends up being great. I have a lot of respect for Mikami and hope the inaugural project for Tango is a lucrative one.
Also that ship environment looks quite spooky.

if shinji's working on it chances are i'm going to buy it fan of survival horror or not but i will say his description of a "true Survival horror game" is pretty broad so i guess we can expect really anything at this point
