Currently, Mojang are working on a game for charity and broadcasting it live. They are developing the game from now until February 19 and those who donate to charity will receive it.

It is all being handled through Humble Bundle, the company behind the Humble Indie Bundle, which bundles together indie games and allows customers to pay what they want as well as donate to charity.

This time, all the proceeds will go to charity, which include: Child’s Play, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the American Red Cross and charity: water.

Fans voted for both the genre and theme of the game. There is a twist though: Mojang will mash up the two with the most and fewest votes. The genres selected were real-time strategy (most votes) and shoot ‘em up (fewest votes), while the themes selected were steampunk (most votes) and ancient Egypt (fewest votes). So the game will be a real-time strategy shoot ‘em up set in a steampunk-styled ancient Egypt.

Mojang will also have certain milestones for activities, with Markus Persson ("Notch") having his beard shaved if one million dollars are raised.

The live broadcast and donation page will be up through the weekend at Humblebundle.com.

Does anyone have any hope of it being good? I mean how long did it take minecraft to be made and most of those improvements came from suggestions from the community/the mods from the modding community. The other game their making is scrolls which doesnt seem to be that great from what ppl have read/seen.

If you saw notch's last programming stream, you'd know he made a rather fun game by himself in under 48 hours for a competition known as Ludum Dare. This time he has a team of people. It's gonna be good :)
