In the Austin area this Sunday, February 12 will be “The Foddy Winter Olympics,” an event displaying a selection of Bennett Foddy’s games.
Foddy’s original hit game, QWOP will be there in a special multiplayer edition. So instead of scraping your knee to the first hurdle by yourself, you can awkwardly flail in a race against another person.
Also, it will be a chance to play his other games already designed for two players: Winner vs. Loser and Pole Riders.
But the main thing to go for seems to be Mega GIRP (in video above), a special installation version of GIRP designed and implemented by Douglas Wilson (B.U.T.T.O.N., Johann Sebastian Joust) and Nicklas Nygren (Knytt, NightSky). The keyboard layout used to play GIRP is replicated through four dance mats, turning the original’s finger calisthenics into full body ones.
If you are in the area, go try it out. Juegos Rancheros will be hosting the event at The Highball which is located at 1142 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704. The event starts at 4 PM.
